Raquel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well in 2005 Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and I was already on my way to an Atlanta for the weekend. As we were on the road there’s this bridge that we take that goes over Lake Pontchartrain and I could see the water getting high and boom we run into dead lock on the interstate! I could feel the bridge moving and was like oh my God get us off this bridge. So after 24 hour of travel I make it to Atlanta I slept on my friends floor for two weeks because it was nothing left in my city. I decided to go to Southlake Mall and fill out applications. I saw a Mac store and since I was just hired at the New Orleans Mac literally a month prior I said they have to give me a job Lord please! Walked up talked to the manager and was hired! My time in Atlanta is the reason I love what I do now!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My ride was t smooth at all! I never wore makeup lol I was a real tomboy so applying makeup to my Atlanta clients was very challenging because back in New Orleans we didn’t wear makeup like I was seeing in Atlanta m. Baby the girl were not playing lol. So it took me about 2 years to really feel confident in providing that service to my Atlanta clients! Because I had no clue what I was doing. If the service took 30 mins it was taking me a hour! The clients would say I don’t see anyone on my face and I would be looking like how lol

Not traveling with clients. I sell my SKNLOUNGE Essentials skincare and mite in that space. I’m a licensed esthetician that does makeup facials and make all natural skincare products. I specialize in creating soft looks for clients and brides while educating them on skincare and why it matters. I’m known for brows lol. The fact that I encourage my clients to feel beautiful without makeup and to take time for themselves with self care meditation sets me apart because I’m all about self wellness. I’m very proud that my brand represents trustworthiness! My advise to anyone starting out is to do a lot of research and don’t be so quick to get your own brick and mortar! Take time to see what your audience really wants from you! I wish I would have know how important a business plan and understanding how important systems were when running a business
