Meet Alexis Davis of St. Pete, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Davis.

Hi Alexis, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Content creation is something that I surprisingly fell into! It started when I was bored during the summer of my school psychology internship and watched youtube while waiting for gifted testing appointments. It had been YEARS since I last watched anything on youtube, and even when I did watch, it wasn’t really gameplays from people. So, 2022 was the year I discovered my (now) favorite creators: DashieGames, CoryxKenshin, & Berleezy. Berleezy really stuck out to me, and when I started following him on Instagram, I learned he had recently went to Dreamcon 2022. I felt that could’ve been an opportunity to meet him, had I know about him beforehand. I learned a little more about Dreamcon & decided that I wanted to go to conventions that was related to gaming, tv, etc. Through the Dreamcon app, I met people who created groups on Discord, & met some INCREDIBLE (and not so incredible) people. One good friend I made from (shoutout Roze!) was a Twitch streamer. I would join her streams and talk in the chat; it seemed like a really fun time. She (along with my favorite youtube creators) inspired me to take a dip into the content creating world. Through Discord & Twitch is how Trinity (my twinny whom I love so!) became close & she inspires me as much as I inspire her! My other creator inspirations are definitely Krysta (krystalogy), Jalon (jalonaz), & Clarke (clarke_selena) – I got the chance to watch a panel hosted by Krysta that Jalon & Clarke was a part & it was extremely inspirational to see 3 Black/Biracial women in the content creating space.

I’d also like to point out that I had been playing video games since I was a kid, with the Gameboy Advance Color being my first console & Sims 2 being the first PC game (outside of the flash games websites and Cartoon Network, Nick, & Disney websites full of games). I fell in love with Nintendo and have been a Nintendo girly since! I’ve played a good chunk of the Mario games and am now starting to branch out into other Nintendo games (for example, Kirby). I feel as though my gaming has evolved as well. I hadn’t ever considered the gaming I did in the past as “cozy” but essentially it was due to there being low-stakes (outside of Mario where death was imminent lol). Nowadays, I purposely seek out games that are considered cozy, but also (thanks to Berleezy, Dashie, & Cory) I play horror games, too – which is pretty ironic considering I hate scary movies.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I started very inconsistently in 2023, where I had only had my Macbook. I eventually upgraded to a gaming laptop, but it still wasn’t enough to where I wanted to really pull off “quality” streams. I still live in my childhood home (shoutout to Mama Cozy! – it’s so tough out here to find/maintain housing), so the space that I have isn’t much but I have to make due with what I have – and I did! I have a nice little setup in my room with a PC, 2 monitors, webcam, etc. but it’s something that I didn’t get until different parts of 2024, when I started to grow my community (shoutout my Cozy Crew!) & take streaming a bit more seriously. I wanted to invest in myself because streaming was (and still is) pretty fun. Also, I work full-time as a school psychologist in a public school system, which is extremely tough (not as rewarding as it could be/felt it would be). There were and still are days where I come home from work and don’t want to be bothered by anything, which unfortunately, lead to inconsistency. I would definitely say the consistency part of content creating is one of my biggest struggles that I still have to work through.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So, as stated previously, I am a Black school psychologist who is Nationally Certified. When I’m not working as such, I am a cozy variety streamer/content creator. I feel as though my background in psychology, mental health, & social justice advocacy allows myself to add to the content creating world. I am trying to find more ways to promote mental wellness & social justice through content creating, so I’m slowly finding my way. I’m currently a Partner for the Aloe Bud app, which is a gentle reminding self-care app that I truly adore, & I know that’s a good way to integrate the importance of mental wellness & self-care.

In addition, something that I’d say I’m known for in my community is my jingle – “welcome to another day and another stay at the cozy inn!”

I call my Discord & Twitch Channel “thee cozy inn” because I want people to feel comfy when they enter my space. I want people to relax and get cozy with me virtually. It’s really funny when I play games with other creator friends and they sing my jingle. That makes me pretty proud and makes me laugh. It was something that just came to me & stuck around.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck is an interesting way to put it. I don’t know if I’d call it luck or divine timing, but sometimes, I feel that the things I “fall into” was meant to happen. Growing up, I wouldn’t have ever imagined I’d be a content creator, especially working as a school psychologist at the same time (something I also didn’t imagine I’d work as). I feel like I’ve been introduced into the content creating space (specifically) for a reason & I’m excited to see where it goes!
