Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Champion
Hi Chandler, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a young filmmaker that dreams of creating films that entertain and inspire people the same way films inspire me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. Which isn’t a bad thing. Anything worth doing is going to be hard. Especially when it’s something you’re passionate about. Filmmaking means so much to me and like anything, it has its many challenges.
When I was first starting to take filmmaking seriously, I became very lonely. I thought I was always going to be doing the heavy lifting (writing, editing, shooting) by myself. Constantly wearing all those hats became exhausting and I faced major burnout. I was also acting in the films I made so balancing all that became a pain. But as I continued to make films and work new jobs, I began to meet some amazing people that have made me feel so welcome to the film industry.
As you grow in your passion, you’ll meet likeminded individuals that will want to grow with you and that has always been a major blessing to me. Collaboration is something that I always look forward too because of all the magic that come from it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Director, Writer, and Actor. The one thing I learned when first getting into this field is that you can’t have too many skills. The more you have to offer, the more likely you’re able to be successful.
A big thing I’m proud of is my ability to take criticism. Every film I make I’m never proud of because I know I can do better which is a great feeling. I always look for what I could’ve done differently and where I need to improve. I’m fortunate to have people that take the time to give me great critique about my work.
Nothing sets me apart from anyone else. I’m not special in anyway. Like everyone, I’m passionate about something and want to grow as a filmmaker and human being.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Advice. You don’t need any school to be a filmmaker. You have the ability to learn everything you need at the touch of a button. Create! Create! Create! A lot of people think you need to be born with some gift and that’s how you become successful. 99% of the time it all boils down to your work ethic. If you are constantly working towards what you love, you’re going to succeed. So many people give up and blame it on not being lucky enough. That’s all rubbish.
Another thing. Make films that you want to see. Watch a ton of movies and see what you like. Make the film that’s always playing in your head when you hear that one song. Write that scene down. Don’t lose it. Everything you have in your head has the potential to be something amazing. You know what’s best for your movies. Get comfortable with failing and learn to improve.
