Today we’d like to introduce you to Lasheika Kassa
Hi Lasheika, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story starts as a curious girl with pigtails, big bold eyes, and scraped knees from running and playing with my sister and cousins on my grandparent’s farm. My story starts here because I grew up knowing the importance of family, hard work, respect for others, and a love of my history. I always knew my curiosity made me different. I asked a lot of questions, I was very observant, and my mind never stopped working to figure things out. I worked my entire teenage years and throughout college. Sometimes I add up just how long I have been in the workforce and where will my next venture lead me. Work is the focal point because it took me years of being a perfectionist to learn and understand the importance of pacing myself. I always knew I had a knack for helping others, and graduated from Clark Atlanta University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in criminal justice. This one little degree has kept me relevant and a subject matter expert for over 20 years. I now work in the government sector doing strategic planning, trainings, devising policies, creating annual training budgets, and solving any problem that comes my way. My brain is still as it was as a child, the difference is I now know how to turn it off to recharge.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life has never been smooth and probably never will be. Life is supposed to knock us off our feet from time to time so we will know how to deal with issues that arise the next time. I used to hear my elders say, when it rains it pours. It took me until I was an adult to understand the meaning. Some of the struggles I have endured, include working for companies and people that did not value me. Going above and beyond while being passed over for pay increases all while watching others do the bare minimum and move up the ladder. I started Fanik Consulting Company in 2021. For two years I did not have one client or contract. I remember questioning if I made a mistake, however fast foward to 2024 and business picked up and allowed me the opportunity to take off from my full-time job to focus on contracts part-time if needed. I spend evenings and weekends working to build clientele. This is a lesson and testament that sometimes things take time, but when it does happen, it always work for the best.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Fanik Consulting Companies’ mission is to enhance your organization by providing expertise on strategic planning, governmental initiatives, and policy implementation all while collaborating as a unified team. I have over twenty years of experience within government, community, and court settings assisting with programmatic support. I also utilize first-hand experience to train companies on employee burnout while aiding them with policy implementation for a more balanced workplace. Some other services include team building and employee development.
What matters most to you? Why?
Community and Love!!! Communities must work on initiatives to help neighbors, be a vessel for the kids that are growing up in this new age world, helping the homeless, and those afflicted with mental illness and substance use disorders. Communities also mean embracing different cultures and taking the time to listen and understand without passing judgment. I can honestly say wherever I go, I meet so many people and I find that we always have something in common. If we all took the time to smile, speak, and converse, we would learn so much. LOVE means everything and we all need it. Imagine what would happen to the world if we all loved each other, genuinely cared, and wanted the best for everyone no matter the situation. The true meaning and understanding of love is something many struggle with. I used to keep a wall up so high no one could climb it, however, once I lowered those walls it helped me understand that LOVE keeps us living and thriving.
