Life and Work with Carrie Joy Osborne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Joy Osborne.

Carrie Joy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey in wedding photography began almost 10 years ago to the day! It all began when a dear friend of mine asked if I would photograph her wedding. I stepped into the role for the day and I fell in love with it! I adored capturing the moments of their marriage on Day 1 that they’d be able to look back on for years to come! From there, I worked as an associate wedding photographer for several years before starting Carrie Joy Photography in January of 2012.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road! I believe that in anything worth fighting for there will be moments when you will be tested – whether that be in your personal life and/or business that makes you question whether the road you’re on and the career you’ve chosen are worth it. But each time the question of “Should I continue being a photographer?” would arise, deep down I’d answer with a resounding “Yes!” Then, I’d go into problem-solving mode – whether that meant taking a second job so I could invest back into the business or support my husband in his dreams of going back to school. And, when those moments of comparison come, I just remind myself of what Lara Casey, founder of Southern Weddings and the Making Things Happen movement, once said – “It’s OK to grow slow.”

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Carrie Joy Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a film and digital photographer who specializes in capturing joyful, timeless and romantic wedding photographs for the southern bride! My use of medium format film (in addition to the digital medium) is one of the things that set me apart. The use of film translates to beautiful, classic color photographs that surpass trends and lend a classic elegance to the wedding day! I’m immensely proud to be a Blue Ribbon Vendor with Southern Weddings and recently had a gorgeous real wedding featured on the Southern Weddings blog! I also lead the Marietta Tuesdays Together group – my local chapter of the Rising Tide Society! We uplift creatives in the spirit of community over competition and provide support, education, and guidance to entrepreneurs as they build a business that they love. Our mission is to leave this industry and this world a better place than how we found it.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
When I was 12 years old, I went on my first overseas missions trip to Ecuador. It was the first moment in my life, I remember experiencing something amazing away from my family and friends that I wanted to be able to share with everyone back home. That’s when I realized the power of photography to capture a place and experience. In addition, the trip birthed a love of travel and culture that continues to inspire me today!
