Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamay Shannon.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I left school I was working as a teaching assistant and trying to find a job that wasn’t an internship. On the side, I would help people every now and then with marketing because that is what I went to school for. I had been doing this for a couple of months and my mom suggested one evening that I do marketing as a business.
No. That was my first thought. It was also my second thought. I felt that I didn’t have “enough”. Enough education, enough knowledge, enough of a network, enough know how – whatever you think of I didn’t have enough of it to start a business.
But the seed was planted and roughly 6 months later I had a name and was registered with the secretary of state. I started out doing ALL marketing for ALL people. That grew old quickly as I learned there were aspects of advertising I didn’t like to do. When I finally decided to focus on social media I had been in business 2 years. The freedom that selecting a particular aspect of marketing has given me is really great. I’ve enjoyed being able to hone my knowledge and who I work with.
What has really gotten me here to where I am is my great community. There are other business owners who look to collaborate and grow and push themselves to try new things and take on new projects. Because of that I have been able to take advantage of unique opportunities and have been able to give those opportunities to others.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road and Entrepreneur do not belong in the same sentence. Not that being a business owner is all struggle bus.
But being an entrepreneur does require that you expand and confront who you think you are. I used to think “I just can’t talk to people on the phone” or “Wow, I’m just going to tell someone we are not a right fit?” I’ve had to deal with where I am uncomfortable around money, having difficult conversations, training people, providing guidance, owning my mistakes, and more to execute what I needed to in my business So, it hasn’t been a lot of external conflicts but more internal bumpy roads.
Being a business owner means you have to do the hard work of not only making sure that you provide a great product or service but that your business is actively providing you the means to have and create a life you love. And that’s what I deal with everyday. Is this adding to a life I love or taking away from it? If my business ever becomes a burden then I took a wrong turn somewhere.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with W2S Marketing – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
W2S Marketing, Where 2 Start Marketing, provides training, consulting, and social media management to business owners who don’t have the time or knowledge to use social media effectively in their business.
What sets us apart from others is that people leave feeling reinvigorated and excited about the growth of their business after conversations with us. Remember when you first started your business and everything was new and full of possibilities? We take people there.
Also, I explain about social media in such a way that it makes sense and people see clearly how they can integrate it into their overall marketing mix.
I am most proud of working with business owners to create solutions that work for their business. I have worked with small and big companies and can identify where companies are in their growth cycle and from there give them the guidance that they need at that point in time and not for a hypothetical business.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about Atlanta is that everyone has a side hustle, everyone is developing something that they are passionate about. Who doesn’t want to be around that?
What I dislike is the city infrastructure. Atlanta keeps wanting the city to grow and keeps making it easy for big companies to move here but doesn’t tend to the infrastructure that makes the city a joy to be in. Ugh – I could go on about this for days.
