Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Long.
Hi Alexis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I attended the University of Georgia and earned a degree in Public Relations. While I was in college, I discovered my passion for hosting events and joined a club that organized public events around campus. Shortly after COVID hit, and like so many others, I felt less creative and less motivated. To keep that creative spark alive, I started organizing small events for my family, and it was during that time I realized it wasn’t just the events I loved — it was the decorating, promoting, and bringing an idea to life that energized me.
Today, I’m just getting started on this journey. I recently launched my own business called 31 Events, where I focus on turning ideas into realities. It’s definitely a work in progress, but I’m loving every minute of it. Every day brings new lessons — from building the business side to growing my creativity, learning new skills, and delivering beautiful outcomes. It’s been an exciting and rewarding process so far.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it’s been a pretty smooth road so far. Of course, every event comes with its own little challenges, like trying to find the perfect table centerpieces on a super tight budget or coming up with a bunch of event theme ideas and the client not really loving any of them. But I wouldn’t say it’s been anything terrible. Every time I hit a bump, I just figure out a better way to handle it next time.
Right now, event planning is still my side business that I’m growing. I’m marrying a lot of my project management skills from my professional role, like staying super organized and coming up with quick solutions, and blending that with my love for events. So honestly, I’m pretty used to the chaos by now — and I kind of love it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Professionally, I’m a marketing assistant with a focus on marketing project management. I help organize and manage projects for marketing teams. I’m known for being extremely organized and having a strong attention to detail — some of my co-workers joke that I’m like a human agenda book.
One thing I’m really proud of is my ability to pivot quickly and think strategically. No matter what I’m working on, my main focus is always on delivering results.
I think what sets me apart is my positive spirit and optimism. I’m definitely a “glass half full” kind of person, and my energy and laughter tend to be pretty infectious. I pride myself on being the ultimate team player because at the end of the day, I truly believe that while our jobs are important, our lives outside of work are the most important.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is traveling with my family back to my hometown in Louisiana. I loved road trips because they meant uninterrupted time with my parents and sisters, and it was always so exciting to reunite with all of my extended family that I hadn’t seen in a while.
