Conversations with Naomi Wilds

Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomi Wilds.

Hi Naomi , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, my name is Naomi Wilds and I was born and raised in Augusta, GA. Growing up, I essentially learned to handle things in a mature way early on due to me being the oldest of 3 children, helping my mom out with my brothers and staying on top of my schooling. I have been an athlete all of my life since I was 5 years old. I started off with competition cheerleading but then shortly after at 6 years old, I began to play the game of basketball. My parents saw that I had a gift and passion for the game so they kept me acclimated in my youth, playing recreation ball, AAU, and of course middle and high school ball. Throughout my lessons and growth whilst on my athletic journey, it brought me to being able to attend college on scholarship for basketball. I played Juco first at Albany Technical College and after two years, I was able to transfer and receive a full ride scholarship at Brewton-Parker College at the NAIA D1 level. This was a great experience for me even though it wasn’t easy with all the transitions. I maintained a 3.0 average and above from highschool throughout college. After upon receiving my Associates and Bachelors degree, I then decided to attend Clark Atlanta University to earn my Masters degree in Social Work with a concentration in Child and Families. I chose this route because I’ve always known that I have a heart for children and to see and watch them grown into their best selves. I am a firm believer in positivity, faith, and excellence. And with that, I’ve learned that these things are hindered if an individual’s mental health is not properly where it should be. It starts in our youth. The way people operate in their adulthood, with traumas and experiences, etc being taken into account, I feel that it is super important to ensure that our children and adults are healthy all across the board, but especially in their mental health because that’s where it starts. I aspire to teach, encourage and motivate individuals to do what it takes to not allow our hardships and traumas effect their new and upcoming positive possibilities. My motto that I like to stand for is: “We only get one life, so why not only live it to the fullest, but to live it intentionally, peacefully, and with exceeding joy.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been smooth in some ways, but of course in life we all have obstacles with have to face. I faced some hardship in college when it came to my major. Upon beginning school, I wanted to first do physical therapy. But shortly after I realized that Biology wasn’t my friend, I didn’t know which path to take. I knew I always wanted to help people but in what way? So consulted wise counsel and through prayer, and I decided that I wanted to take the psychology route.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I work in social policy. I advocate for the U.S. citizen going out and utilizing their right to vote in every election due to the importance of having our proper elected officials in office serving the people not just as a state but as a country. I also work with children individually in therapy settings implementing cognitive behavioral techniques conducive for the betterment of that child’s behavior and mental health regardless of what they’re dealing with in life. I am most proud of myself for staying the course and finishing my Masters Degree in the middle of the Covid pandemic and also completing it with a perfect 4.0 GPA. I feel that my drive, work ethic and positive outlook on things and life is what sets me apart from others. I am going to perform and do my best at whatever palate is in my life at the time and I am going to complete whatever is expected of me in the allotted time given and it will be done with excellence!
