Today we’d like to introduce you to RICIA.
Hi RICIA, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born in Dayton, Ohio moved to Decatur Georgia when I was 12. I always sung in choir ,elementary and in middle school, but I was very shy and soft spoken. But Fun Fact ,I also came from a musical background. My grandfather was the lead drummer of the Ohio players “Greg Webster” who sung songs like “Roller Coaster of Love” and “Fire” so I’ve always been musically inclined my whole life. But I didn’t begin to break out of my shell until I was in high school and my choir teacher forced me to do a solo where I had to sing in front of everyone! And that’s when my confidence started to build . My choir teacher learned I could sing and told my mom and she popped up at one of my shows, it was like a sister act moment, But from then on my family encouraged me to sing so once I finished high school I didn’t want to do anything, but Music. Somehow, I was introduced to the drummer(”Big worm”) and one of the replacement singers of the soulful R&B music group Blackstreet Jstylez and he started to mentor me and help me build up my confidence in the studio ,He gave me all the game,I traveled to Charlotte NC to visit him and I started to record my own music. I did a few background gigs as well and made sure I was on the scene for local open mics and clubs too,Me and my crew would go to different clubs and paid the DJs the spin my records ,This went on from about 16 to 19 years old. One of my biggest supporters was one of my older brothers who did music as well. He also helped me along the way up until you passed, which was very heartbreaking and one of his only wishes was for me to continue to do my music so that’s what I did. I became extremely driven and started dropping music on websites like SoundCloud, YouTube, etc., and began to build a following .I also had a bunch of friends who were in the industry, so I was always collaborating and networking and doing shows. in my early 20s I ended up pregnant with my son so I took a break for a min and moved back to Ohio, where I still doing my music but needed time to focus on my personal life .Eventually i got back to it and i ended up doing a popular feature with another artist by the name of yellow pain. We Collaborated on a record called “Monsters “ in 2018 which is now on YouTube that has over 4 million views as of today, and another one of my records “Say it”was also featured on a TV show on the second season called the 5th Ward .Its is still streaming on all platforms with along with other my other music .I was able to move back to Atlanta in 2020 by the grace of God on a job transfer and hit the ground running getting back on the scene reconnecting with my peers and helping behind the scenes with different up and coming artists until I was tied in enough to jump back out there on my own, where is now in 2025 I am collectively working on a project with a team and dropping content that you can find on my social media and I also have a video coming out soon so STAY TUNED!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It Definitely has been a rocky road due to it being a male dominated industry,I found myself having a hard time with men wanting to control my music or career .But I’ve managed to not run into any compromising situations over the years and was blessed to work with a lot of wonderful people who were willing to help me build my career purely based on my talents and experience in the industry.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer and song writer and I also co produce a lot of my records and others . I have a great ear for hits and what sounds good.Im most proud of the impact i leave on others. When I work with them they are always grateful and confident after helping them perfect their craft.Im also proud of the impact leave on my fans , when they reach out to me and express to me how my music has helped them with their lives or motivated them in some way is always a proud moment for me.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
