Life & Work with Melanie Monroe of Reynoldstown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Monroe.

Hi Melanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey while living in San Diego, California, where I came up with the idea to build a business around helping aspiring content creators and artists accomplish their goals in the EDM industry. At the time I was taking as many opportunities in the festival space as I could find, and was able to attend a few festivals as a “Content Creator”. I decided to make the move back east when living in California started to become a bit too costly, and I wanted to move to a city where creativity and community thrived. I settled on Atlanta because of an amazing friend, who introduced me to a collective here called DefineEverythingFuture. DEF is a highly regarded creative collective in the music industry, known for throwing exciting and innovative events around the country – but mainly in Atlanta. I knew it was a dream of mine to collaborate with a collective like DEF and to draw inspiration from the team of creatives here. At the time I was also working remote for a startup called The Festival Babes, which is the EDM industry’s premier influencer management and media company. I started to build my own business, Melanie Monroe Media, in fall of 2024, while working as the Marketing Director for The Festival Babes and collaborating with DEF when and how I could. Melanie Monroe Media is a media company that provides specialized social media consultations, in-person event coverage, online coaching, creative direction, and a digital growth guide aimed at aspiring and established DJs, music producers, and content creators. Within the 8 months since I have started my business, I have grown my monthly newsletter to over 3,000 subscribers and maintained an open rate of over 70% and a click through rate of over 10% and brought on 10+ clients all through word of mouth and social media marketing on my own Instagram and TikTok pages (@melaniekmonroe), with $0 spent on paid advertising. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with numerous local Atlanta artists like Gad’m, BassDoctor, Sol, and more, and have built relationships with staple local venues such as District. My local community of friends and fellow creatives and entrepreneurs here in Atlanta have supported my personal and business growth extensively, and I feel so fortunate to be able to call myself a business owner in this city!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road when you’re starting something fresh! I will say that my road has been as smooth as possible thanks to amazing friends who have supported me from the get go. For me, the hardest struggle was figuring out where to start and how to structure everything. I offer so many different things – from creative direction, to personalized coaching and consultations for creators, artists, or people who just want to work in the music industry in general, to social media management, to digital products…It’s a lot, and I had to make sure that I could find a way to fit it all together in a way that was harmonious. Once things started rolling, I had to make adjustments (and I still do!) to ensure that everything is organized. I also balance this business with a full time corporate job and a part time job, so sometimes I find myself burning out and need to reset before I can continue on. It takes a lot of self awareness to make this happen!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
It’s so hard to narrow it down for me! I am a full time Marketing Director for a hospitality company called Hawkeye Hotels, a part time Marketing Director for The Festival Babes, and a part time Business Owner at my company Melanie Monroe Media. I like to refer to myself as a “corporate creative” – I’m typically business-minded and organized, but I love the creative aspect of all of my roles. This is why I have chosen a career path in marketing!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is how crucial it is to surround yourself with people who support your goals and speak highly of you in rooms that you’re not in. And vice versa, the ability to recognize when certain people are not in your corner – because those people will hold you back. I’m so fortunate to have the most amazing community on my side who has spoken my praises, and I really do my best to hold myself to the standard in place.
