Life & Work with Denisse Gonzalez of Atlanta Ga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denisse Gonzalez.

Hi Denisse, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Mexico and spent the first few years of my life in Cojumatlan Michoanca. At the age of 4 my mother and I crossed into the U.S and I celebrated 5th birthday party in Michigan where I grew up , Holland to be specific. At the age of 11 my parents separated and I lived with my mom until I moved out of the home at 17 years old due to many abusive/toxic situations in the house hold. For the next year I was in between homeless and living with friends until I was able to move into my first apartment and soon after found my way into modeling by accident. During the height of the BLM movement I attempted a protested in my town and took a Mexican flag with me-a picture was taken by a reporter and put on the front page of the newspaper. Modeling was never something I thought I would ever do and fashion wasn’t my biggest interest so I took some time to educate myself on what a model is and should be then moved on to photoshoots my first of which was for LaVoz Magazine and have since had 5 magazine issues with them the most recent being October of 2024. That same year I did my first runway show also in GrandRapids and ended the year doing another in LazVegas. Returning from that I began doing bridal and collaborating with more photographers until I eventually moved to Atlanta and have been trying to seettle in, find a balance for everything in my life and still try to be an advocate for my community as I am a DACA recipient and have been since I was 15 years old. My biggest goal is not only to get to a more secure Status for myself but also to be pave the wave for others in my same situation. Thank you.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m not the best driver so accidents happen frequently with me and I’m learning how to slowly trust myself on the road again. Also as much as a blessing as having DACA is it has also been an obstacle for a lot of different reasons and is probably my hardest topic to face. I am also not the closest with my family and I long to find a way to make us closer and to have a family of my own.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider Modeling my career and I do think I am a great model. I’m not at my fittest point but I am very tall and it has been very helpful in modeling. I’m very greatful for my height. I am most proud of being a Mexican woman and I say that what sets me apart from other is my simple presence.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
In today’s political climate I am in a position where everyday is a risk. Everything can change within the matter of a traffic stop. Regardless and even though I go get a lot of anxiety about it life must go on and it must go on to the fullest that we can with what we have.
