Today we’d like to introduce you to LaToya Williams.
Hi LaToya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
A proud native of Prentiss, Mississippi, I was born the second of two children to the late Marjorie and John Culver, both devoted educators who instilled in me the value of academic excellence and service to others. Continuing that legacy, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Spelman College and a Master of Social Work from Clark Atlanta University. My educational journey culminated in a Doctor of Education degree in Pastoral Community Counseling from Argosy University, where my dissertation, “A Study of the Self-Care of Pastors and Their Spouses: Maintaining Holistic Health in the Individual and Marriage,” reflected my passion for mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness within faith communities.
Now, as a licensed therapist, ordained minister, and motivational speaker, I am deeply committed to helping individuals and couples navigate life’s transitions, challenges, and stages. Since 2007, I have channeled that commitment into The Life Center, a private practice I founded initially as a community outreach initiative. In 2014, it evolved into a faith-based counseling and coaching practice, where I now serve as CEO, Chief Psychotherapist and Life Coach.
At The Life Center, I work primarily with adults and couples, helping them access deeper emotional healing and personal growth. Beyond clinical work, I also lead workshops, corporate trainings, and empowerment coaching for leaders, businesses, and organizations—equipping them with tools for mental wellness, communication, and sustainable success. My life’s work is rooted in the belief that healing is possible, transformation is attainable, and everyone deserves to live with purpose, peace, and clarity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not—but every twist, turn, and detour has shaped the woman, professional, and instrument of God’s healing that I am today. The road has included moments of both great triumph and deep pain. As a Black woman in ministry, mental health, and leadership, I’ve had to navigate the pressures of high expectations while often facing the realities of being underestimated or overlooked.
Professionally, building a practice from the ground up came with its own learning curve—balancing the clinical with the business side, managing growth, and wearing multiple hats. But every struggle has made me more empathetic, more strategic, and more anchored in my calling.
Today, I stand in a place of gratitude—not because it’s been smooth, but because I didn’t give up. The road has not been easy, but it surely has been worth it.
We’ve been impressed with The Life Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Founded on the guiding principle of “offering hope… giving life…”, The Life Center Counseling and Resources, LLC (The Life Center) is a faith-based mental health and empowerment practice dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families heal, grow, and thrive. Rooted in both clinical excellence and spiritual sensitivity, The Life Center offers a full spectrum of services—including individual and couples therapy, premarital counseling, coaching, training, and resource referrals—to support holistic well-being and personal development.
The Life Center’s mission is to empower and equip people to be their best selves—not just for themselves, but for their children, their families, and their communities. Through compassionate care and practical tools, The Life Center endeavors to help clients move from survival to significance, from confusion to clarity, and from brokenness to breakthrough.
I believe in the power of connection. That’s why, in addition to direct services, I actively link clients to trusted community resources and partner providers to ensure their needs are met beyond the therapy room. Whether someone is seeking healing, direction, or a fresh start, The Life Center is here to walk alongside them.
While I’m often seen in a suit and heels, I absolutely love a good T-shirt—especially one with a message. I’m known for something I call “T-Shirt Tuesdays with Dr. LaToya.” It started during the COVID-19 pandemic when I was looking for creative ways to empower and uplift others in a time of uncertainty. I began purchasing and wearing apparel—primarily from Black-owned and small businesses—that featured bold, empowering, and inspirational messages. Every Tuesday, I’d wear one and share it on social media. What started as a small act of support and encouragement grew into a weekly ritual that followers now look forward to. It’s my way of spreading light, one shirt at a time.
In addition to that, I’m also the creator of the “BWell Collection by Dr. LaToya”, a personal line of products designed to educate, empower, and inspire individuals to Believe Well, Become Well, and Be Well. The collection is an extension of the work I do in therapy and coaching—encouraging people to not only understand wellness but to define it on their own terms and discover what “wellness work” truly works best for them. Whether it’s through a message on a T-shirt or a guided affirmations of grace and gratitude from the BWell Collection, my goal is always the same: to help people live whole, intentional, and authentic lives.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people who know me through my work—as a therapist, speaker, or business owner—are often surprised to learn that I’m actually quite adventurous. I love the thrill of roller coasters, the freedom of jet skiing, and the calm curiosity of snorkeling. And for my 40th birthday? I jumped out of a plane! Skydiving was a bucket list moment for me, and it really reflects how I try to live—courageously, fully, and without fear. I believe life is meant to be experienced, not just managed.
