Today we’d like to introduce you to Kye Park.
Hi Kye, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was never a straight-A student growing up. What really sparked my interest was anything creative—producing music, making short home videos with friends, just exploring ideas and storytelling in different forms. That eventually led me to pursue a degree in music engineering. But once I graduated, I realized how difficult it was to really build a sustainable career in that field. Around the same time, our small family business was slowly declining, which pushed me to think more seriously about my future.
When my first child was born eight years ago, that was a turning point. I knew I needed to find something that could support my growing family—but I didn’t want to lose the creative part of myself. That’s when photography started becoming more than a hobby.
I actually maxed out my credit card to buy my first proper camera gear. I started with landscape photography to really learn the technical side—exposure, lighting, color, composition. Once I felt confident, I was lucky enough to be in a season of life where a handful of my friends were getting married, and they gave me the chance to photograph their weddings. That’s where everything changed.
I quickly realized wedding photography was an entirely different world—it’s not just about taking pretty pictures. It’s about capturing raw, candid moments, anticipating emotions, gently posing without making couples feel overwhelmed, and creating an atmosphere where people feel comfortable and seen. But I was able to bring in my landscape photography background—playing with light, framing, and location—and blend it with storytelling, which made my work feel like mine.
One of the biggest personal challenges I’ve overcome was stepping out of my introverted shell. I was the shy guy growing up, and putting myself out there was not easy at first. But over time, wedding photography pushed me to grow socially and emotionally, and I’m really proud of the version of myself I’ve become.
My wife, Heidy (Hyojin Kim), has supported me through every twist and turn. I honestly couldn’t have done any of this without her encouragement and belief in me. She’s been my rock.
Today, I’m a full-time wedding photographer based in Atlanta—and I feel incredibly grateful to do work that connects creativity, people, and meaning. I get to tell love stories for a living, and it still feels surreal sometimes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the toughest challenges was when the pandemic hit. It felt like everything came to a complete halt—weddings were postponed, events were canceled, and it was a hard time for everyone, not just me. It was a moment when uncertainty was everywhere, and it was tough to see a path forward.
But instead of staying idle, I took that time to focus on growth. I reached out to other photographers, built relationships, and networked like crazy. It was an opportunity to learn from others, share ideas, and refine my craft. I kept pushing forward, knowing that this wasn’t forever and that once things picked back up, I wanted to be ready.
The experience taught me resilience and reminded me that even when things feel out of control, there’s always something you can do to move forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in capturing wedding couples—starting from their adventurous engagement sessions to the big day itself. My adventurous side is always present, and I’m constantly on the lookout for unique, off-the-beaten-path spots. I don’t charge extra for traveling outside of Atlanta either, because I believe that every couple deserves the best locations to tell their story, no matter the distance.
I’m known for my artsy approach—focusing on composition, lighting, and creating real, intimate moments between couples. I love blending natural, candid moments with my artistic eye to make each image stand out. It’s all about striking a balance between the rawness of real connection and the beauty of the surroundings.
What sets me apart is that I take the time to pre-scout all my locations, engagement spots, and wedding venues. I want to understand the space before the big day to make sure we’re ready for the perfect shot. Additionally, I don’t overdo certain color tones in my photos. Instead of heavy edits, I keep the natural skin tones and lean toward a soft, pastel, dreamy vibe that enhances the real beauty of the moment.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I think I was just a normal kid—not someone who stood out, but someone who truly enjoyed life with a strong circle of close friends (who are still my best friends today). I loved goofing around, pulling harmless pranks, and sharing a good laugh. Theme park days with friends were the best kind of adventure.
Creatively, I was always drawn to the arts. I got into music production pretty early, spending hours playing around with Fruity Loops and Reason. I became obsessed with film scores, especially those by James Horner. Braveheart was on repeat in my house—I was fascinated by how music could move you and elevate a story. I’ve always been inspired by that blend of emotion and creativity, and it’s followed me into the work I do now.
