Check Out Ashton Wilson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Wilson.

Hi Ashton , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for interiors started in elementary school, watching Room by Room on early HGTV. I was fascinated watching spaces transform and it wasn’t long before I was rearranging furniture and begging my mom to let me redecorate my bedroom – multiple times over the years. That creative spark followed me into college at Auburn University (War Eagle!) where I designed my first apartment and started helping friends with everything from choosing paints to eventually designing a new construction home.

For a while, design lived in the background of my life as a hobby/small side business while I worked in real estate and later in plastic surgery scheduling. Both roles that taught me how to manage details, expectations and most importantly people. But deep down, I knew I wanted something more creative and more personal. In 2020, I made the leap – I went back to school full-time for an interiors degree and launched Ashton Interior Design in 2022.
Now, I feel lucky everyday to do the work I love. I help busy families and professionals design homes that are not only beautiful, but grounded in how they truly live. I lean into natural textures, layered materials and timeless architectural details to create spaces that feel elevated and lived-in.

At home, life is beautifully full – I’m a wife, a mom and I try to carve out time for painting and cooking when I’m not designing. I believe that home is such an important part of our lives and they should feel both beautiful and deeply personal. My goal is to make the design process feel easy and collaborative and leave my clients truly happy and at home in their space.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t always been a smooth journey. There have definitely been challenges, from learning how to run a small business to managing the uncertainty that comes with being an entrepreneur. After college, I considered pursing interior design more seriously, but when I lost my dad unexpectedly my priorities shifted. In that season of life I felt the need to take a more stable path, one that offered security and a steady paycheck right away, rather than returning to school or starting a business right away. While it wasn’t the most direct route, I truly believe every step along the way prepared me for what I’m doing now and gave me a deeper appreciation for the work I get to do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder and principal designer of Ashton Interior Design, where I specialize in creating timeless, livable spaces for busy professionals and families. I offer a range of services from full-service interior design to design consulting and I specialize in space planning and 3D renderings. No matter the scope, my focus is always on blending beauty with functionality. I’m especially known for my use of natural materials, layered textures and incorporating architectural details that gives each space a sense of warmth, intention and character.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me, inviting me into their homes and lives and allowing me to help shape the spaces where their everyday moments happen. I don’t take that lightly.

What sets me apart is my ability to make the design process feel approachable and personal. I bring not only creativity and vision but also a strong foundation in customer service. I believe great design isn’t just about how a home looks its about how it feels to live in. That’s the different I aim to deliver.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesion I’ve learned is: the path doesn’t have to be perfect to lead you where you’re meant to go. It’s easy to look around and feel like you’re behind if your journey isn’t a straight line but I’ve come to believe that every detour has something to teach us. From figuring out what I truly wanted in a career, to finding the courage to pursue my love of design, to learning how to balance motherhood with running a small business, each step has shaped me into the designer and person I am today.
