Inspiring Conversations with Vanessa Rodriguez of vrpostres

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Rodriguez.

vanessa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always wanted to have a KitchenAid mixer, not for any specific reason. Simply because I wanted it.
“‘I’m Venezuelan and I like to cook for my
family. In Venezuela, we have the habit to
cooking almost everything from scratch..
I’ve been living in the US for almost 10 years
now. So, The pandemic hit,
and I saw a lot of ads for this mixer at
affordable prices, and I said, “This is the
opportunity.” and I got my KitchenAid Mixer. At this point we have a woman who likes to cook and
was locked up at home with a new mixer.
What’s left? Baking… and I started making
dessert recipes that are very popular in
my country. And practically the first time I
made them, they turned out delicious, reminding us of those dessert flavors that are quite popular in my country. The few
people who tried them loved them and told
me, You have to do this business because
you’re good.” And I listened!
And here I am today, it’s one of my businesses. And not only that: it’s something I discovered I love
doing and it relaxes me. I feel that it is a
way of showing love to my loved ones and
with my clients it seems special to me that
they make me part of unique and favorite
noments.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been an easy road, even though I try to enjoy it a lot, but it hasn’t been easy. The biggest factor is that when I started, I didn’t know many people to offer my cakes to. So one day I decided to go places and simply offer them, spreading the word to my coworkers and my family members at their jobs as well. Another thing is that I set the bar for myself by only offering them to people from my country or Latin Americans, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise for me that people here love my desserts, no matter where they come from.

We’ve been impressed with vrpostres, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My desserts aren’t overly decorated. Don’t look for perfection in decoration because you won’t find it. Not because I don’t like it, but because my reason for doing this project is the experience of a homemade cake, with good quality ingredients, without coloring. I focus more on the taste—the moist, fluffy, and tenderness—of a cake rather than its decoration itself. Something that makes me feel proud and that I’m doing well is when a customer comes back and repeats. That’s worth everything!

What makes you happy?
Mainly my family and having them here with me. Without them, I don’t know what my life would be like. Having goals and new ideas gives me satisfaction, knowing what I want to do and achieving more in life and having them to share and celebrate the good or face the negative, knowing that they are my constant even though everything is changing from the outside, this makes me feel full and blessed. Always choose that each return home constitutes a triumphant entry of love.
