Rising Stars: Meet Shalonda Mayner of South of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shalonda Mayner.

Hi Shalonda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started you don’t have to live a street life to have a GOOD life about 4yrs ago.. I started it because of my son who choose the street life. I wanted to prevent another mother from dealing with the hurt of her son in prison or even worse having to bury him. I engage with groups of troubled youth telling my day to day life of a mother who can’t see nor talk to her son when she wants to. I trying to show them a more positive outlook on life. Reaching out to successful men in and around the community and have them on a panel to tell their stories and to be asked questions. With the crime rate among or youth it’s very much needed. I was speak on this topic as my platform for pageants that I compete in. I am currently a state queen for United International Elite. No matter what stage I grace my platform will be rooted from “You don’t have to live a street life to have a GOOD LIFE”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road definitely hasn’t been easy but it’s been worth it. Some of the struggles along the way had been trying to reach as many of the youth from different cites, states backgrounds. I want to reach ALL troubled youth. .

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work in the food industry inside of correctional facilities. So I use that as a way to reach the troubled youths that are incarcerated within the system. Most ppl would say I’m know for my community services and giving back to the youth. I’’m most proud of not giving up on our youth as a whole. I will always speak life into the youth. That I’m a mother who’s living day by day with my son who’s in prison. So I feel that by me telling my on personal experience of a child who choose the street life that I’m able to give them hands on information,
