Today we’d like to introduce you to Waldimir (Wally) Baskovich.
Hi Wally, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Chicago to parents of Serbian and Greek descent. My father—an amputee and decorated athlete—had me doing dawn calisthenics. After we moved to Florida, I survived a near-drowning at eight, bullying, and years of social anxiety. From 19 to 22 I rebuilt myself through martial arts, weight training, and a spiritual awakening. Since 1979 I’ve studied nutrition and the training methods of Jack LaLanne, Bruce Lee, Arthur Jones, and Charles Atlas.
Today, my work is straightforward: I coach adults aged 50 and older. My focus is on mobility and neurological issues—balance problems, joint pain, post-surgery limitations, Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, CMT, or stroke—collaborating with clients’ healthcare providers when necessary. We emphasize joint-safe strength, posture, gait, and fall prevention, with measurable results: improved balance, stronger legs and grip, increased confidence in walking and climbing stairs. No gimmicks—just disciplined training, simple nutrition, and clear goals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Early life had bumps; the last 10–12 years have been business challenges I chose. When I opened my studio, the hard part wasn’t motivation—it was focus. I committed to serving adults 50+ and doubled down on what works for them: joint-friendly strength, balance and gait training, and sustainable weight loss. The ongoing challenge is staying on top of the science, not the trends—tracking what actually improves daily life: steadier steps, stronger legs and grip, less fear of falling. It’s not flashy, but it’s real.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I run Body by Wally, a studio for adults 50+—especially those with mobility or neurological challenges. I specialize in joint-friendly strength, balance, gait training, and fall-prevention. I’m known for turning the science into simple, repeatable routines: stronger legs and grip, steadier walking, stairs without fear, and daily wins you can feel.
My process is straightforward: assess, set clear targets, train safely with progressive overload and proper form, and keep nutrition simple—adequate protein, smart portions, and habits people can live with. When needed, I coordinate with clients’ clinicians so training and treatment don’t work against each other.
What I’m most proud of? Clients who go from “I’m afraid to move” to “I can do this”—fewer falls, better posture, more independence. What sets me apart is the combo of no-nonsense coaching, old-school discipline, and measurable progress that actually shows up in real life.
How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is useful work: helping adults 50+ reclaim balance, strength, and independence. When a client who feared falling walks in taller, climbs stairs without the rail, or carries groceries without pain—that’s joy. I love the quiet wins you can measure: better gait, more sit-to-stand reps, stronger grip, steadier posture. I’m happy when the plan is clear, the work is honest, and the results show up in daily life. Simple training, simple nutrition, consistent effort—watching that change someone’s outlook never gets old.
