Today we’d like to introduce you to Taneasha Hines.
Hi Taneasha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and my love for the beauty industry began over 20 years ago. I built my foundation at Dudley’s Beauty College, one of the most prestigious African American beauty institutions of its time. Over the years, I’ve earned the titles of Master Cosmetologist, Certified Trichologist Practitioner, Master Colorist, and Non-Surgical Hair Loss Specialist—credentials that reflect both my dedication to mastery and my passion for transformation.
For seven years, Atlanta had been on my vision board. In June 2020, I lost my mother, and her passing became the confirmation I needed to fully pursue my dreams. In April 2021, in the midst of the pandemic, I relocated to Atlanta—an intentional, faith-driven move toward the life I had long envisioned.
Prior to relocating, I had opened my first storefront salon in downtown Laurel, Maryland, a prestigious area I was proud to serve. Achieving my lifelong dream of owning a brick-and-mortar salon was a milestone, but just three months after opening, the pandemic forced me to close. Watching something I had poured my heart into disappear so quickly was devastating, but it became a lesson in resilience and the importance of pivoting with purpose.
In Alpharetta, Georgia, I founded PHD Hair Solutions, a medical hair loss facility specializing in non-surgical hair replacement for clients experiencing alopecia, thinning hair, or medically related hair loss. My work goes beyond hairstyling—it’s about restoring identity, dignity, and confidence.
Recognizing a need for advanced, real-world education that goes beyond what’s taught in traditional cosmetology school, I launched PhD Advanced Hair Training. While my specialty as the Queen of Hair Illusions is hair loss and advanced extensions, my curriculum spans a wide range of topics—precision cutting, natural hair care, hair growth and retention, custom color, client experience, business strategies, and multiple extension methods. My mission is to equip beauty professionals with the technical mastery, business acumen, and confidence to excel at the highest level.
Looking ahead, I plan to expand this vision into opening my own hair academy—continuing to empower the next generation of stylists to thrive, innovate, and serve with excellence. My journey is one of vision, resilience, and purpose—turning personal trials into platforms that transform lives, both behind the chair and in the classroom
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been rewarding, but it hasn’t always been smooth. When I relocated from Maryland to Atlanta, I was stepping into a city where I had no personal network—no friends, no extended family—just my loving husband and our young daughter, who at the time was in first grade.
Building a new life and business meant intentionally seeking out opportunities to connect. I joined The Gathering Spot, a powerful professional network, to meet other entrepreneurs and visionaries. I also reached out to medical providers in the area to introduce my services and create partnerships. For a short time—less than two weeks—I even worked in another salon just to immerse myself in Atlanta’s beauty industry culture and chemistry while finding my footing.
Two months after relocating, I faced another unexpected challenge: my largest social media account, which had been my primary funnel for gaining new clients, was unlawfully taken over by a hacker. At the time, it felt like a devastating loss, but in hindsight, it was a blessing in disguise. It pushed me to invest more energy into TikTok and YouTube, both of which offered monetization and allowed me to connect with a wider audience.
Those early challenges—rebuilding my network, navigating a new market, and bouncing back from a major social media loss—ultimately strengthened my resilience. They reminded me that in business, setbacks can be the very thing that redirects you toward greater opportunities
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the founder of PHD Hair Solutions, a medical hair loss facility in Alpharetta, Georgia, and PhD Advanced Hair Training, an education platform for beauty professionals. As the Queen of Hair Illusions, I am known for blending artistry, science, and business strategy to create life-changing transformations—both for clients experiencing hair loss and for stylists seeking advanced education.
I specialize in non-surgical hair replacement, advanced extension techniques, precision cutting, custom color, and hair growth and retention strategies. As a Master Cosmetologist, Certified Trichologist Practitioner, Master Colorist, and Non-Surgical Hair Loss Specialist, I merge technical expertise with a deep understanding of hair health. On the education side, I train stylists in multiple disciplines—from natural hair care to customer experience and business development—equipping them to excel in every area of their craft.
What I’m most proud of is the impact my work has on people’s lives. For my clients, it’s the moment they see themselves restored in the mirror and stand a little taller. For my students, it’s the breakthrough when they realize they can create a six-figure career doing what they love.
What sets me apart is my ability to operate at the intersection of compassion, technical mastery, and entrepreneurship. I don’t just teach or style hair—I help people reclaim their confidence, elevate their skills, and create sustainable success in an ever-changing beauty industry
What are your plans for the future?
In the next three years, my focus is on elevating PhD Advanced Hair Training into a premier hub for beauty professionals—expanding my reach, influence, and impact within the industry. My vision is to create a space where advanced education, innovation, and collaboration thrive, connecting like-minded professionals who are committed to excellence.
Having successfully built, rebranded, and mentored both individuals and businesses over the past 20 years, I understand the power of strategic growth and strong networks. This next chapter is about positioning myself not just as a service provider, but as a leader and connector in the beauty industry—someone who shapes the future of how beauty professionals learn, grow, and serve their clients.
I’m also passionate about continuing to give back, particularly to those affected by hair loss and confidence challenges. By combining education, artistry, and community outreach, I plan to leave a legacy that inspires and empowers the next generation of beauty leaders.
