We recently had the chance to connect with Brooklyn Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Brooklyn , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What battle are you avoiding?
The battle I’m avoiding is taking on clients or projects that don’t align with my business standards or value. As a photographer, it’s easy to fall into the trap of accepting work just to fill the calendar, but I’ve learned that doing so can lead to burnout, strained client relationships, and work that doesn’t represent my brand the way I want it to. By being selective and setting clear boundaries with my pricing, scheduling, and creative process, I’m protecting both my time and the quality of my work, which ultimately serves my clients and my business better in the long run.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Brooklyn Jones, the owner and creative behind Bkvisualz, an Atlanta-based photography brand specializing in editorial, lifestyle, and studio work. My focus is on creating clean, high-quality visuals with a luxury feel, while still capturing genuine personality and story in every shoot. What makes my brand unique is the balance between technical precision and a relaxed, collaborative experience for clients, I want people to feel comfortable in front of the camera so we can create images that truly represent them.
Right now, I’m working on expanding my portfolio to include more brand and campaign photography, while also refining my client experience to make the process from booking to delivery as seamless as possible. Every project I take on is an opportunity to bring someone’s vision to life in a way that feels polished, intentional, and unforgettable.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that really shaped how I see the world was the first time I invested in my own camera and booked a shoot on my own terms. It showed me that I could turn something I love into something real, not just a hobby, but a business. It taught me the value of betting on myself, setting my own standards, and knowing that my work has worth. That moment shifted how I view opportunities, risk, and what’s possible when you take control of your own path.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was definitely a time I almost gave up. Everywhere I looked, it felt like everyone had a camera in their hand, calling themselves a photographer. The market felt crowded, and I started questioning what made me different or why someone would choose me over the next person. That competition pressure made me doubt my place in the industry. But I realized my value wasn’t just in owning a camera, it was in my eye for detail, how I work with clients, and the experience I create. Once I stopped comparing myself and focused on what I bring to the table, I found my lane again.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire other photographers and creatives who stay true to their style, even when trends push them to change. It takes character to stick to your vision, trust your process, and not chase every quick win. That kind of consistency inspires me more than any big title or status.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I’m building a body of work and a client network that reflects the kind of photographer I want to be long-term. The relationships I’m nurturing, the consistent branding I’m creating, and the reputation I’m building won’t fully show their value right now, but in 7–10 years, they’ll be the reason my business is still thriving and attracting the right clients.
