Story & Lesson Highlights with Diana Nunez of Chamblee

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Diana Nunez. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Diana, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Something that makes me lose track of time is spending time at the gym for myself. I truly enjoy getting lost in my workouts and pushing myself to my limits. It gives me a real sense of accomplishment and helps me reconnect with myself. Lately, my schedule hasn’t allowed me to truly get lost in the gym as often, but when I do, I return feeling recharged and refreshed.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Diana, the founder of A Better You Fitness. My mission is to help people feel stronger, healthier, and more confident through fun, approachable, and effective workouts. I’ve been training for a 3+ years now and I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’ve been in many walks of life whether it is retail, military or corporate America and none of them compare to the passion I have for what I do now. Helping others grow, motivating them, and pushing them to become their best selves through fitness is truly my calling.
Many people don’t realize the deep impact that a personal trainer has in peoples life’s beyond physical changes. Fitness transforms confidence, energy levels, health, and overall mindset. That’s what makes my brand unique, we focus on mindset first. We focus on bridging the gap between the self image we hold ourselves and the ideal self of who we are trying to become. Through small, consistent steps, those goals become their new reality. I fell in love with fitness because it completely changed my life in many ways. Now, I’m dedicated to sharing that transformation with as many people as I need to. I want to show the world that there is more to fitness than just looking good, it’s about becoming a better, stronger you from the inside out.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
When I first started training, there was a personal trainer named Chris who I owe my career to. At the time, he was a complete stranger. He posted a help-wanted ad for personal trainers, and I reached out, hoping to get the job for the experience.
Right away he knew that I was meant to work for myself and do this journey on my own. He denied me the job, but offered to meet and let me pick his brain about starting my own personal training business. I showed up to meet him with a notebook full of questions and he generously shared tips, advice, and encouragement. Then he hit me with a challenge: “I like you, but if you don’t put yourself out there by tonight, don’t bother messaging me again.” He wanted me to post that I was taking on clients that very night. I didn’t feel ready. I had so many reasons why I couldn’t put myself out there. No website, not enough before-and-after pictures, no client process in place. But Chris told me I was more than capable. I just had to take the first step. I went home that night and hesitantly posted an ad that said NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. At the time, I thought he was being a little harsh, but now I’m forever grateful he saw my potential and gave me the push I needed. At the end of the day I realize that you will never feel ready for something. There will always be many reasons not to start and It’s all a matter of taking that first step and learning along the way.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When I first moved from Smyrna to Chamblee, getting clients was a real challenge. It was the cold season, people were staying indoors, and I was in a brand-new building starting from scratch. Putting myself out there again felt intimidating, and there were moments I wondered if I was going to make it. To help with the transition, I exchanged personal training services with a performance coach named Kendall. She was incredible to work with and played a pivotal role in helping me find my footing in Chamblee. Now, I’m fully settled here with a full roster of amazing clients I love working with every day and I host fun community events that bring people together. I’m so grateful I kept going, pushed through the discomfort of starting over, and leaned on the support I had instead of giving up and going back to corporate America. I know for sure I wouldn’t be as happy as I am today if I had taken the easy way out.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
At my core, I’m someone who strives to motivate and push others to be their best selves. I didn’t always have that mindset. I grew up in an environment that caused a lot of trauma and shaped me into the worst version of myself, afraid to try, quick to give up, constantly seeking approval, and caught up in negativity. It took a lot of work inside and out to become the person I am today. Now, I show up for others the way I once wished someone would have shown up for me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I truly believe I’m doing exactly what I was meant to do. Over the years, I’ve tried so many different things, and honestly, I used to feel ashamed for never fully sticking with any of them. I’ve invested time and money into pursuits I never imagined returning to. But now, I see the beauty in trying something and letting it go if it doesn’t bring joy or meet expectations. Looking back, I realize that each experience has given me valuable skills that I carry with me, helping me grow and improve in my business.
