Zhanae’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Zhanae . Check out our conversation below.

Zhanae , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately I’m finding joy in traveling and experiencing new things that challenge me to think outside of my comfort zone and see the world for so much more than what I’m used to on a daily basis.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Zhanae and I’m a creative director and entrepreneur. Through my Production company Josiari Jahsir, I explore different concepts and work towards empowering people to find the strength and courage to pursue their dreams, and love within themselves. A few projects that I’ve been working on recently are my podcast, The Power Is Mine, interviews through my magazine Dupont Leveaux, and a book I released called You Got This. I think what makes my brand special is my leaning on my own experiences to encourage others to overcome whatever they may face in life.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I believe the part of me that served it’s purpose but must now be released was the part that shrunk herself or chose to behave in ways that made other people comfortable so that I could exist within an environment and they wouldn’t feel threatened or think that I was doing too much and trying to make them feel bad about themselves. It worked well for a time, but now I want to stand in my power and be who I’m truly meant to be.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I learned the ability to pivot whenever you’re faced with situations that you don’t necessarily like or things don’t go the way that you had planned them. I believe that if things are always handed to you, then you will never know how to navigate discomfort, and I feel like my suffering has taught me valuable lessons that have allowed me to help others in their lives.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
I believe that the public version of me is the real version of me because I’ve purposefully built my brand on being myself and being able to show up regardless of what I was going through. Of course I have days where I’m discouraged, I’m angry, where I might not seem as nice, but the biggest thing that I wanted to show in the public was kindness and being true to yourself, no matter what obstacles you have to overcome.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. How do you know when you’re out of your depth?
I’ve come to learn that when I’m out of my depth is when I feel high levels of anxiety and a little bit confusion or not necessarily knowing what I’m doing, but I love to be in that energy because it’s always pushed me to do things that are bigger and better and not just being in my comfort zone. You accomplish the most when you push yourself to a level of the unknown.
