Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Able.
Hi Jessica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began with a deep appreciation for the power of words and how they shape our understanding of the world. I would read at night with a dictionary and thesaurus by my bedside, eager to explore the nuances of language. As a mom, I observed that many early learning resources felt either superficial or overwhelming. They rushed through the alphabet, so I sought something that allowed children to connect with each letter in a meaningful way.
This led to the creation of ‘My Name Starts With…,’ a series of 26 coloring books, one for each letter. Each book is designed to help children build vocabulary with clarity and depth, rather than just skimming the surface. My goal was for children to feel proud of their names, their letters, and their learning journey.
Since then, this passion has evolved beyond books. I’ve developed an Amazon storefront and a small but impactful business focused on creating educational resources that parents and teachers can trust. At its core, my story is about transforming challenges into opportunities and making learning joyful, creative, and confidence-boosting for children—and a little easier for the adults supporting them. And, who doesn’t love to color?!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I definitely wouldn’t call it a smooth road. In fact, it took me over two years from starting the idea to publishing the final book in the finished series. That was mostly because life didn’t slow down for me to work on it. I was parenting, working a full-time job, and navigating all the little hiccups that come with life. Most of the time, I was working in the margins—an hour here, an hour there—usually late at night after my kids were finally asleep.
One of the biggest struggles was balancing that creative passion with the realities of time, energy, and the business side of things. There were moments of doubt, where I wondered if I’d ever finish or if it would make a difference. But I’ve learned that slow progress is still progress, and sometimes building something meaningful requires patience and persistence.
Now when I look back, I see that those two years weren’t wasted—they made me more resilient, more focused, and more connected to my ‘why.’ And every time a parent or teacher tells me the books have helped their child, it reminds me that all those late nights were worth it.”
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is all about making learning simple, joyful, and meaningful for kids. I create educational resources that focus on building vocabulary and confidence, starting with my alphabet coloring book series, ‘My Name Starts With…’ Each book is dedicated to a single letter, so instead of just one page on ‘A is for apple,’ kids can dive into words, pictures, and activities that bring that letter to life. It’s especially helpful for children who need extra practice or for parents and teachers who want tools that feel both fun and effective.
Part of what shapes my approach is my professional background in travel and healthcare management. Travel has taught me the value of curiosity, perspective, and learning through experience, while healthcare has reinforced the importance of caring for the whole person—mind and body. Those experiences fuel my passion for education and my desire to create resources that not only teach kids letters and words but also encourage them to see learning as an adventure.
What I’m most proud of is that these books aren’t just another quick activity—they really give kids space to connect with their learning. Parents and teachers have shared how their children light up when they see their name represented, or how a child who struggled with a letter finally gained confidence. That kind of impact reminds me that I’m not just building books, I’m building a foundation for kids to explore the world with confidence and joy.
What sets me apart is that I’m not just creating something to sell—I’m creating something I wish existed when I was first looking for resources for my own kids. A lot of the educational space is filled with gimmicky or surface-level content. I wanted to slow things down, focus deeply, and make something that truly lasts in a child’s learning journey. At the end of the day, it’s not just about coloring—it’s about giving kids the words and confidence to tell their own story.
Looking ahead, my vision goes beyond books. Because of my love of travel and the lessons it’s taught me, I want to expand into workshops, speaking engagements, and global learning resources that give kids the chance to see the world as a classroom. I see myself not just as an author, but as someone building experiences that education and exploration. My ultimate dream is to give families—starting with my own—the gift of health, wealth, travel, and freedom, and to inspire children to grow curious, open-minded, and ready to explore the world.
What makes you happy?
Happiness is fleeting so I more focus on contentment. I’m content when I hear my family’s laughter. When I see my husband’s face light up and the little giggles that tend to follow. I’m content and connected to myself when I’m reading a book that transports me to a new time or a new world. I’m so content when I get a good night of sleep. If I’m doing this or experiencing this while I’m at the airport about to visit somewhere new- I’m a lightbulb of joy! All of these things add to my contentment with life and my day-to-day happiness because they make me feel whole. They add to my feeling of well-being and they help me remember what is most important to me.
