Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Gamboa.
Hi Jazmine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Jazmine Gamboa, and I proudly serve as the Vice President and Chair of Technology and Communications at Pass By Ira.
Some time ago, I felt a deep calling to start a nonprofit organization. I spent countless hours researching and planning, but I knew I couldn’t do it alone—I needed a team that shared my vision and purpose. As time went on, that opportunity came in the most unexpected but meaningful way. Jene’a Haynes, President and CEO of Pass By Ira, extended an invitation to join her in this incredible mission. Without hesitation, I said yes.
Pass By Ira’s mission to eradicate homelessness deeply resonated with me. Having personally experienced the struggles of homelessness within my own family, I understood the urgency and importance of this cause on a personal level.
That one “yes” has led to more than I ever imagined—lifelong relationships, tremendous personal and professional growth, and the opportunity to evolve as a leader. Most importantly, it has given me the privilege of serving and advocating for those who are unhoused.
At Pass By Ira, we are committed not just to providing support, but to breaking the harmful stereotypes often associated with homelessness. While some may become homeless due to poor decisions, many others are impacted by circumstances beyond their control—natural disasters, domestic abuse, mental health challenges, and systemic issues.
We envision a future where we address the root causes of homelessness, not just the symptoms. And together, we believe that future is possible.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with anything one does in life, learning to work alongside others is what is and will always remain to be a constant struggle.
Managing relationships has many factors that require practice and patience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have had experience in various fields as I started working at a really young age. Currently I find myself working in the financial industry as an upcoming day trader.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
As the laws are quickly changing in regards to how we deal with the homeless population here in the US, our time to advocate for them now is more crucial than ever.
Certain laws and states have passed laws criminalizing homeless people. Incarcerating and fining them on top of their day to day struggles.
At Pass By Ira, as well as other various organizations, we are already dealing with some of the aftermath. Our goal is to lessen the people experiencing this and reintegrate them into society.
