Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellen Schlossberg.
Hi Ellen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened Mt. Yonah Book Exchange in March of 2011. As a lifelong reader for pleasure and lover of books, I wanted to create a warm and welcoming space for others who appreciate and enjoy the written word. Over the years, the store’s new and secondhand inventory has grown significantly, and now includes a number of highly collectable antiquarian, vintage and author signed books.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I feel fortunate to be able to say that our business has not experienced many challenges over the years with one notable exception. As was the case with many brick and mortar retailers, COVID presented unique challenges that we endeavored to meet by offering such services as curated mystery boxes, curbside delivery, local delivery and free shipping.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Mt. Yonah Book Exchange, LLC?
Mt. Yonah Book Exchange is an independently owned bookseller located in the NE Georgia mountains. We have a large, deeply discounted inventory that is constantly changing due to our trade policy, which allows customers to trade their secondhand books in exchange for store credit. We pride ourselves on our excellent customer service and are always happy to recommend the perfect book or order books not already in our extensive inventory. The store has a cozy reading room, and a very sweet resident cat named Daisy.
What matters most to you? Why?
What is most important to me is creating and maintaining a community space where people of all ages can enjoy spending time browsing and shopping for books, where the customer is always acknowledged and appreciated and where book lovers can meet and get to know one another at hosted events like author book signings and launch parties.
Pricing:
- The overwhelming majority of the items we sell, both new and used, are discounted
- Customers can reduce the prices of our books further by using trade credit.
