Today we’d like to introduce you to Blak 9earL.
Hi Blak, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m from Macon Ga born and raised. I’ve been singing all my life. Starting in church sung at my first funeral at the age of 10. My father passed in 2000. I being singing/recording with local artist here in the city at the age of 16. Once graduating from high school I began performing live at local spots in downtown Macon. I was only 19 at the time. I continued to perform and formed my own band which was Blak9earL and the Gentleman. It was great Blak9earl was making noise in the city. Forward to 2020 I had the pleasure of recording with the late great Otis Redding lll for my first southern soul record “Blak9earl Shuffle!” I begin to travel to numerous cities in Georgia and now different states. Things are picking up for me in ways I couldn’t imagine.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are always ups and downs. Most often the struggle is your support system. It’s a lot when your family or hometown don’t acknowledge you in your time of need. It can be discouraging. I for one take it as motivation and leave it on stage. They see U keep singing Pearl
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a soul singer and once I open my mouth you feel every word sung. I love and live in what I do. My presence alone sets me apart from the rest. I can’t explain it but just my spirit. I’m truly anointed and vocally it shows.
What does success mean to you?
Reaching your goals and pushing to exceed for more. Never letting up when you don’t have support and going against the odds of things that would normally make one quite. We cut from a different cloth
