Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Tanchez.
Hi Gabriela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
About Me
I’m a second-generation hairstylist with over 20 years of experience in the beauty industry. My passion for hair started at just eight years old, growing up in my mother’s salon, where I spent more than a decade learning the art and heart of the business. I officially graduated as a licensed hairstylist in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2023, but my journey began long before that.
After moving to Kennesaw, Ga. I continued honing my craft and worked there for seven years. As a mother, I was incredibly fortunate to work in salons that welcomed my children, allowing me to balance my career and family life. The support I received from my amazing mentors and bosses inspired me to take the leap and open my own salon after the birth of my second child.
On September 17, 2021, my dream became a reality. Opening my own salon has not only given me the flexibility to be with my children, but it’s also given me the opportunity to give back to a community that I deeply love and appreciate.
I specialize in color correction, men’s, women’s, and children’s haircuts, perms, as well as all color and highlighting services. I’m passionate about creating transformations and truly love seeing the joy on my clients’ faces when they leave with exactly what they envisioned—if not more.
Throughout the years, I’ve learned that communication and truly listening to my clients are the keys to delivering exceptional results and building lasting relationships. For me, hairstyling is not just a profession—it’s my calling.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey to owning my own salon was far from easy. While I worked hard to save and gather the finances needed, unexpected obstacles always seemed to pop up. To cut costs, I took on most of the remodeling myself—painting, decorating, and handling everything I could manage. For the major renovations, I hired professionals, but even then, juggling the physical work with the behind-the-scenes logistics was overwhelming.
Navigating permits, license applications, and all the paperwork was incredibly stressful, especially with limited knowledge about the process. There were moments of frustration and uncertainty, but I refused to give up. I stayed positive, did as much research as I could, and leaned on my community—asking questions, seeking guidance, and accepting help whenever it was offered.
The most rewarding moment came when I received my business license, followed by my salon license. That was the day I knew the doors to my dream were finally ready to open. Every challenge along the way made the success even sweeter, and I’m proud of the space I’ve created not just for myself, but for my clients and my community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a licensed cosmetologist with over 20 years of experience, I specialize in both color correction and precision women’s haircuts, including short bobs, layered styles, and pixie cuts. One of the things I’m most proud of is my ability to truly listen and communicate with my clients—understanding not only what they want, but also what they don’t want.
In all my years behind the chair, I’ve built lasting relationships that go far beyond the typical stylist-client connection. I’ve always worked hard to ensure no one leaves unhappy, and on the rare occasion a concern has come up, I’ve been able to resolve it with care and understanding.
What truly sets me apart is the bond I form with my clients. To me, they are like family. I take the time to get to know them on a personal level, and I often share in their lives—celebrating milestones, engaging in family activities, and being a part of their journey. I truly love what I do, but even more than that, I love the people I do it for.
