We recently had the chance to connect with Beania Tanae and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Beania, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My character and mental health. Who I am becoming as a person is my most greatest accomplishment. Plain and simple. There’s a lot that happens behind those closed doors. A lot of self criticism, self doubt, self sabotage, self blame, and the list goes on. It takes so much out of a person to really set the time aside to be uncomfortable, while trying to sort through and understand their emotions. The world doesn’t stop just because you’re going through something. You have to know how to separate what you’re going through from where you’re trying to go, and do so for the benefit of you AND the people you love. Trying to balance life while actively healing, changing, and growing as a person is the thing I’m currently most proud of and it may always be.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Beania Tanae, and I’m a music-holic. (Hi Beaniaaaaa). I’m originally from Detroit, Michigan, where I lived with my mom and siblings up until I was 15. I then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to finish out my education and live with my father’s side of the family. Graduated from Georgia State University in 2021 with my Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice and then started working like most regular humans. While in college, sort of around COVID time, I started playing around with this app where you can record yourself singing over looped beats. I fell in love with how fun it was and it honestly kept me sane through a ton of hard times. Gradually my craft has morphed into what it is today, still ever evolving. As I grow, so does my artistry. Both sides of my family are extremely supportive when it comes to my education and my music. They are my inspiration and motivation, so I’m determined to continue to make them proud.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I never ever thought I would be a singer, even though I’ve always loved music and grew up in school choir and chorus. My dad has also dibbled and dabbled into the music industry a bit throughout my life. When I was a kid, I kind of gaslit myself into thinking I had to be something more realistic so it couldn’t even be a possibility. I wish I had more confidence back then so I could’ve hyped myself up to start earlier. Then again, everything happens on God’s timing so I have no regrets. I now know, I can be and do anything I put my mind to.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering helped me understand what I want out of life. Suffering also taught me how to appreciate the good things and people you experience, even when they’re short-lived. Last but certainly not least, suffering taught me that I have a limit to how much negative energy I can handle. Nowadays, when I reach that limit it’s much easier to recognize and deal with without crashing out.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My close friends would probably tell you I’m super difficult to deal with. That I’m not easy to love, but I can be. They would tell you that for them it’s easy to love me because we have a mutual understanding. We just want what’s best for each other, even when we’re not doing what’s best for ourselves. What they would say really matters to me is family and genuine connection.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Giving a f*ck. I already barely have any left to give but let me find out I got a hard deadline – ITS OVER FOR EVERYBODY. No games will be played when it comes to me and I most likely would stop working so hard for corporations and invest more into myself so I can live to the fullest. I’ve honestly already started transitioning into this mindset, 10 years left or not.
