Story & Lesson Highlights with Tanequa Mack of North Charleston

Tanequa Mack shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Tanequa, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Right now, in my life I believe God is calling me to teach. With my business I love to show my work and explain to others how to start a business on social media. With demonstrating that a lot of people wanted to get hands on practice. For the past 3 years I’ve been working on hosting a Lip-gloss making class and no one would show up. This year 2025, something shifted. This summer I was able to host not just one class but two. It was like something shifted for me and the business. I don’t like speaking to a lot of people at once because I get nervous. I had to tell myself “The world needs to hear you”. Now I’m preparing to host another skincare class in October with more confidence than ever before.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Tanequa Mack, and I am the founder of Royal Cosmetic, a beauty brand built on the mission to “build confidence one drop at a time.” What started as a personal journey of healing during postpartum depression has grown into a movement of empowerment for women and men around the world. I began making lip gloss in 2020 as a way to restore my own confidence, and I quickly realized how powerful beauty can be in helping others feel seen, valued, and strong.

Today, Royal Cosmetic offers a diverse collection of handmade lip glosses — including a special men’s line — that combine quality, creativity, and care. Our products have already reached customers across the U.S. and internationally, from Kuwait to Dubai, Puerto Rico, Korea, and beyond. What makes Royal Cosmetic unique is not just the product, but the purpose: every gloss carries a story of resilience, growth, and the belief that confidence can be created and shared.

As a U.S. Army veteran, wife, and mother of four, I’m passionate about showing others — especially women balancing family, career, and self-care — that they can achieve their dreams while looking and feeling their best. Royal Cosmetic is more than beauty; it’s a reminder that no matter where you are in life, you deserve to shine.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I believe bonds between people are often broken by a lack of communication, misunderstandings, and unhealed hurt. When people stop listening to one another or let pride and fear take the lead, trust begins to fade and distance grows. Life challenges, whether personal struggles or outside pressures, can also create walls where bridges once stood.

What restores those bonds is grace, empathy, and the willingness to truly understand each other. Forgiveness, honesty, and consistent effort rebuild the trust that may have been lost. Sometimes it’s as simple as showing up with love, patience, and compassion, even when it’s hard. Healing takes time, but when people choose to be vulnerable, communicate openly, and see each other’s hearts rather than their mistakes, relationships can be made whole again — often stronger than before.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self, “You are stronger than you think, and every challenge you face is shaping you into the woman you’re destined to become. Don’t be afraid to dream bigger than your circumstances, and never let fear convince you that you’re not enough. Trust the journey, even when it feels uncertain — because one day, you’ll look back and realize that everything you went through was preparing you to inspire and empower others.”

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the beauty industry is that confidence only comes from fitting into a certain standard of beauty. Too often, people are told they need to look a specific way, wear certain products, or chase trends in order to be “enough.” This creates pressure, comparison, and insecurity instead of celebrating individuality.

Another lie is that beauty is only for women. In reality, men also deserve products that help them feel confident and cared for, which is why I was intentional about creating a men’s collection with Royal Cosmetic.

At Royal Cosmetic, we reject the idea that beauty is one-size-fits-all. True beauty isn’t about covering up — it’s about enhancing what makes you unique and giving you the confidence to shine as yourself.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was a woman who turned her pain into purpose and used her journey to uplift others. That I was a wife, mother, veteran, and entrepreneur who showed that no matter the obstacles, you can rise, create, and inspire. I want my story to be one of resilience, faith, and love — someone who made people feel seen, valued, and confident in who they are.

More than anything, I hope people remember that I poured into others, that I left behind not just a brand but a legacy of empowerment — proving that even the smallest steps of courage can create ripples that last far beyond a lifetime.
