Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Rachel LaForce of Old Fourth Ward

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rachel LaForce. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Rachel, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Long. Haha. Now that my boys are back in school, we have a little more of a regular schedule. And by that I mean that I blast out of bed around 5:45am to set some intentions, light a candle and enjoy coffee before my world wakes up. Morning routine with our two little boys and then it’s off to school drop offs by 8:20am. I work and bounce from meeting to meeting – task to task – from 9am until lunch. Then if it’s nice out – I get out for a walk – no headphones – no phone – just quiet. Then it’s back to it until 3pm, then I am on Momma Duty and I’m out doing pick ups until 4pm, then snacks and outside time, then dinner, nighttime routine and get my chickens down 8:15pm. Then I enjoy an hour of whatever I want and then it’s nightttime tea, skincare and a book in bed, light out at 10:30pm. Soooo – in a word? Sexy? lolz.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Oh boy, here I go. I’m Rachel LaForce – a Comedian, Intuitive Speaker, and Media Entrepreneur. I co-founded (alongside my husband and fellow comic, Alex Gettlin) Skewed Orbit Studios, a creative hub producing comedy-driven, culture-shifting content across podcasts, YouTube, live events, and more. We opened our brick-and-mortar studio in January of this year. At the heart of everything I do is my podcast, Healing is Hilarious, where I blend humor and honesty to help people laugh through the hard stuff, trust their intuition, and build lives they actually love. I also created The Lightning Method™, a practical framework for moving from stuck to unstoppable – because healing isn’t just personal, it’s cultural repair. I shared this framework for the first time in June at TEDx Buckhead Ave here in Atlanta. From my early days touring with The Second City to credits on HBO and Hulu, I’ve learned that comedy isn’t just entertainment – it’s a tool for connection and transformation. Right now, I’m focused on scaling my media work, bringing new listeners to the podcast, and continuing to prove that laughter is the most powerful entry point to truth. Oh, and I was a featured panelist on CNN twice this summer, which was a blast!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My husband. Not to ruin it, friends, but marriage isn’t someone coming to save you. It’s living with someone who is a mirror to everything you have hidden from yourself about yourself. I know – so romantic. LOLZ. Building a continued partnership with Alex, a family, and a business – shout out to Skewed Orbit Studios in ATL – I have been tasked with examining the distance between who I think I am and what my daily actions and habits say about who I really am. Plus! Alex is my biggest fan – and I his – having someone who loves you so deeply and is always willing to throw your name in a room because they truly believe you are the best person for the gig is priceless. I have grown exponentially as a Mother, Creator, and Entrepreneur because of my relationship with my husband.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear is being caught trying. If I knew I might not be the best – I wouldn’t try. I wouldn’t go for it. Now, this was sneaky – as most self-sabotage is. I was never consciously like – “yeah, avoid that one loser”. It was more stealthy – more like – “I’ll kind of try, but I’m too busy with other things, so maybe next time I’ll be in a position to go for it”. SPOILER. She was ready the whole time, just scared. And not for no good reason. Growing up, I experienced situations with friends and boys that placed me “second place”, “second choice”, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. I was subconsciously scared to say, “No, thank you. I claim first chair. Y’all can kick rocks!”. After many years in recovery from alcohol, I began to see it was never about me, and all those stories I told myself were never true. I was worthy of being first. I was worthy and ready for everything I secretly dreamed of. And if you’re reading this, so are you. I have spent the last 18 months putting myself in the position to fail. To fail loudly and in front of people. I have decided I am not going to get to where I want to be by not trying and by not failing. My new mantra, “to live a life you love, you must be willing to get caught trying”.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
That we are all connected. It’s never been us versus them. Their suffering is ours, and ours is theirs. We are all mirrors to one another. Our complex problems actually have very, very simple solutions. But the simplicity is almost too hard to look at, because if it really is that simple, then well – we’ve all been wrong. We’ve all been taken for a ride. What we have worked so hard to make “ours” isn’t real, nor does it really matter. Because what really matters at the end of the day is how we feel, and ultimately, we’re all chasing freedom from our fears, our shame, our pain, and what society has told us is “the goal”. There is no goal, friends. You already have everything you need to live a life that brings you peace, fulfillment, and love. You can see how this POV doesn’t make you the most popular person in the cafeteria. LOLZ.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Caring about what other people think.
