We’re looking forward to introducing you to Aeon Slate. Check out our conversation below.
Aeon, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
To me, each of these are important. With intelligence, or the will to learn, the difficulties in life are much easier to manage. Whether it’s emotional intelligence in being able to provide support for each other, or just having access to knowledge for problem solving, intelligence can lead to many opportunities. Energy is what can draw something to you or away from you. In Dear Shadow, we’re big on positive energy and allowing ourselves the space to be ourselves. And we hope that people who discover us feel welcome! And lastly, integrity in a lot of ways is the backbone of a person’s background. Being honest and forthright in morals and ethics is a staple in our band. Anything that is unjust or lacking in morality doesn’t sit right with us.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m in an alternative metal band from Atlanta called Dear Shadow. We put out our first full length album entitled “The Yin & Yang Realities” back in 2023. For fans of the many categories of metal, prog rock or hard rock, we encourage you to check us out! We’ve been asked before what type of rock we play and often times find it difficult to narrow it down to just one thing because we have a passion for many different types of music. And with our last album we tried to blend a few things together for an experience that anyone who is into rock in any form could enjoy. We pride ourselves in being able to tell a story through music. The album is a concept album centered around a vast non linear universe that delves into the dualism between the light and the dark. It is an original story that I created primarily for this album. But whether you are someone who loves music with meaning after meaning. or are someone who just wants to rock we’ve got you covered. Right now, we are rehearsing our setlist to set up upcoming performances.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
This coincides with my previous answer about integrity. Not having integrity can surely be the root of broken bonds. If one cannot accept fault or accountability, then trust and communication cannot be fully built. But on the contrary, having a good sense of integrity can certainly be the thing that restores our bonds. However, no one is perfect, and I don’t think striving for perfection is healthy. Striving to simply improve and listen to others is a victory to me.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering tests our resolve. It also highlights where we can improve. A loss isn’t a loss, it’s a lesson. Success feels great and it can strengthen your confidence which is necessary in life. But losing from time to time can show where we’re lacking. It can also be humbling.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say music, family peace, and the peace of others matter to me. I feel like people in general are angrier and less patient than we’ve been before. So, I feel that compassion and patience are paramount.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
The importance of kindness and empathy. Of course that sounds very simple. But I’ve found that a lot of people speak on being kind but do not practice it. We understand how difficult times can be. And how often people silently struggle in life. So, we aim to be a band that is welcoming to everyone. We appreciate each and every person who listens to us. We don’t mean that in the sense of it sounding nice to say, but in the sense that we know how busy and stressful a person’s day could be. And we’re thankful of anyone who takes a moment out of their day to listen to us.
