Story & Lesson Highlights with Lady Bella of Decatur

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Lady Bella. Check out our conversation below.

Lady, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Acceptance and gratitude. Being appreciative of the present moment and what God has already given me. Accepting the now and being grateful regardless of what I may feel I don’t have.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Blessings everyone! I’m the one and only Lady Bella. Bella comes from my middle name Isabella. I consider myself one of a kind, one of one. I’m an Atlanta Loctician . My personality and vibe setting sets me apart from your normal loctician. I not only focus on bringing your locs back to life, I create experiences.

I’ve been a loctician for going on three years. God directed me in a direction that I didn’t feel that I could do solo. But with Gods strength I’ve been able to transition to being a loctician full time almost a year now.

I’m working on perfecting my craft everyday and teaching those who are willing to learn along the way. It’s a blessing that my clients allow me to maintain their locs regularly. I’m very big on energy, so allowing me to touch your crown is definitely an honor.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Losing my mom at the age of 16 with a one year old really allowed me to see the world and the people around me in its true form. I basically became homeless, I moved back to California unexpectedly and eventually came back to Georgia and moved in a Group Home off of Old National Highway with teenage mothers that were under states care.

While healing from grief and some trauma, I learned you are really here alone and no one is going to give it you. You have to have a connection with God. No matter the circumstances you have to go get it yourself. You are your greatest successor.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t listen to them baby. They treat you that way because your light shines bright babygirl. I know life seems crazy right now but you’re covered. It will all make sense when you get older. Don’t allow anyone to dim your light. Make them put on some shades boo. All that hate that comes your way is making you stronger. You got this!

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I’m this way 110% of the time. That’s actually one of the main reasons I wanted to do hair. I can be myself without explanation. Its a take it or leave it kind of thing. I’m my own brand. I love walking in my true colors.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I know my offspring are good mentally and spiritually. My daughter and son are a product of me. I have everything I need knowing that I’ve done them well. Smiles on their faces and knowing that they feel safe in this unpredictable world.
