Crystina Kennedy on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Crystina Kennedy shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Crystina, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Creating art has always been the place where I lose track of time. I love working with mixed media, abstract, and graffiti styles because there are no boundaries. I can let go of structure and create freely. I’ll start a new piece and realize hours have flown by. That freedom helps me break through mental blocks, reset, and recharge.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Crystina Kennedy, a commercial food and product photographer who’s obsessed with bold colors, drips, splashes, and quirky stop motion animations. My work is about energy and storytelling. I want every photo to feel alive, like you can almost taste it! Creating visuals that spark curiosity and make people smile is always my goal.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that’s shaped me the most is the one I have with my daughter. Being a mom has shown me how resilient I am. Every time I tell her to be fearless and to go after what she wants, I know I have to lead by example. That’s made me step into challenges I might’ve avoided before. Motherhood turned me into the strongest version of myself.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Something I’d say to my younger self is: Don’t let others’ opinions define what you do. I let others’ opinions and being afraid of judgment hold me back for years. Once I focused on work that made me proud and tuned out the noise, I felt free to create without limits.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, I’m a “take me as I am” type of person. I value authenticity over performing for others. I put my energy into being my best self, not trying to fit someone else’s expectations.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, definitely. Validation is nice, but it’s not why I create. What matters is that I’m proud of the work I’m doing.
