Martin Kiefer of Woodstock on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Martin Kiefer shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Martin, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My wife and three daughters.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Martin, Founder of Hive Fitness Journey. In a fitness world full of big box gyms and overcrowded classes, I wanted Hive Fitness Journey to be different. A sanctuary for people who take their health & workouts seriously. HFJ specializes in working with active adults between the ages of 30 and 50’s. Every workout is intentional. Each class is capped at just ten members, so no one ever gets lost in the crowd.

Our members aren’t here to burn calories, they’re here to train with purpose. They value expert guidance, proper accountability, and being surrounded by an uplifting community. That’s the environment we’ve built at Hive Fitness.

We specialize in personalized group training with a strong focus on form and function. A lot of our members have past injuries, so safety, mobility, and corrective exercise are always our priority. Every session is built around proper mechanics and functional strength training. What you do today sets your body up for when you’re 90.

My wife and I have over a decade of experience working with major fitness franchises and corporate HQs. We took the best of what we learned, left behind what didn’t work, and built Hive Fitness Journey around progress, personal attention, and lasting results.

Your fitness is a journey, and you should constantly be evolving with it.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My 9th grade Spanish teacher, Ms. Garrett. She told me it was ok to be my authentic self and to use the power of my childhood story of being in foster care to help others.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
To look inward and draw upon the strength, perseverance, and knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career, recognizing that I have the ability to succeed independently without needing to work under someone else’s ownership.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My wife’s. She’s my voice of reason, the one who challenges me to be better and think beyond the obvious. She’s smart, fierce, and never afraid to push me toward more.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
Being with my wife and kids, exploring new destinations together.
