Story & Lesson Highlights with Kaitlyn Burt of Historic downtown Buford

We recently had the chance to connect with Kaitlyn Burt and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Kaitlyn, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Hiking! There’s the cutest trail by my house. That’s my little escape from reality,

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey! I’m Kaitlyn Burt, owner of Sage & Honey Salon in Buford, GA. I’ve been doing hair for over 10 years and created this space to feel like a cozy mix of a salon, a bookshop, and your favorite coffee spot. I specialize in lived-in color, blondes, and extensions—and I’m all about making people feel like the best version of themselves. Right now I’m working on growing the space into a creative little hub where beauty and community meet.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
The moment I stopped waiting for permission and decided to create my own space. It made me realize how powerful it is to trust your vision—even if it doesn’t make sense to everyone else.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Failure. 100%. I used to talk myself out of so many good ideas because I was scared they wouldn’t work. Turns out, nothing feels scarier than staying stuck. So now I try to do the thing—even if I’m scared—because that’s where all the good stuff happens.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
She is now. For a while I think I tried to be who I thought I should be—especially in business. But I realized the more I showed up as my true self, the more aligned everything felt. Now I lead with honesty, warmth, and a little weirdness. And it works.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I was definitely not made for the 9–5 life. I was born to create magic with my hands, blast good music, and build a space like Sage & Honey where people feel like the main character.
