Hi Kewonia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Kewonia Wheelock also known as K’Shears, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and raised in Killeen, Texas. Influenced by her mother, Mrs. Denise Benjamin, who has successfully run Denise Hair Designs for over 20 years, Kewonia developed a passion for the hair industry early on.
While working as a shampoo technician in her mother’s salon during high school, Kewonia discovered her love for creating transformative hairstyles and educating others. With determination and faith in God, she has pursued a successful career in the hair industry. Her ultimate goal is to open “K’Shears Beauty School of Excellence,” where she hopes to inspire and mentor future beauty professionals.
K’Shears, believes that “Education is the Key to Success.” With a career that began in 2000 after graduating from Columbus Tech Hair School in Georgia, Kewonia has built a reputation for determination and excellence in the hair industry. As a proud wife and mother of three, she has traveled the world, leaving her mark and sharing her expertise.
After returning to Texas, Kewonia became a Farouk Systems/CHI Educator & Platform Artist earning recognition for her commitment to Educator Of The Year. Her work has been featured in Black Hair Magazine, EnCore Magazine, and Extreme Magazine, solidifying her place in the industry.

K’Shears is CEO of K’Shears Custom Beauty & Business located in Luxe Salon and Spa Suites in Killeen, Texas. She also serves as the co-founder, CEO of K’Shears (the brand) and K’Shears Custom Beauty & Business, Director & Educator of beauty, and Master Stylist where beauty and business education is the focus. Additionally, K’Shears is a co-founder of K&T Elixer hair products, dedicated to providing quality hair care solutions
K’Shears for now 2 yrs have been mentoring teens in her K’Shears Teen Workshops making sure she is setting from up for success and giving them the skills to be successful
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No everything have not been smooth I loss my 8 chair salon , people have stolen my ideas and used them to gain profit
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Color. I am a color master specialist. I also specialize in texture hair and healthy hair. I am known for my growing hands what I am was proud about is one of my dreams have always been to work New York Fashion week which I did in 2024. I didn’t just work New York Fashion week. I was the Lead Assistant. Which means I had to assist with directing the team and also showing the team how to create the final look on each model
What set mw apart from anyone else is the fact that I am driven I am determined because I feel that God has given me a gift to be able to share to this world and I turn my no’s into yes
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I love to singing I always wanted to sing on Broadway & a famous singer.
Also when I was 10 yrs old I was on PBS as a guest on Sesame Street
