Life & Work with Tim Edwards of Hiram Ga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Edwards.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My barbering journey started back in high school, standing in my bathroom mirror cutting my own hair. Friends began asking me to cut theirs too, and that’s when I realized I had a gift. In my 20s, I faced some tough challenges, including time in prison, but that period taught me discipline and consistency — values I carried straight into my craft when I came home.

I started in Ohio, charging just seven dollars a cut, eventually opening my own barbershop in Toledo, which I ran for about six years. In 2017, I moved to Georgia, worked in a couple shops, and then launched Kutz by Tim — my private barber suite where every appointment is one-on-one and tailored to give clients a true VIP experience.

Today, I’ve been honored to win the Best of Georgia award four years in a row in the winners category. From cutting my own hair as a teen to running a respected shop in Georgia, barbering has given me a way to connect with people, serve my community, and build a legacy for my kids.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. The transition from Ohio to Georgia tested my skills and ability to restart. Working in a 10 chair shop where you had to compete with other barbers was new to me.
After 8 months I relocated nearby in a smaller shop where again had to restart my clientele.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in precision cuts, beard care, and scalp and skin treatments, but what I’m most known for is the one-on-one VIP experience I give every client. For me, it’s not just about the haircut — it’s about making people feel valued.

What sets me apart is consistency and care. I’ve built a reputation for professionalism and genuine connection. Being honored in the winners category of the Best of Georgia award four years in a row is something I’m especially proud of, because it reflects the trust and loyalty of the people I serve.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most is the variety of people and backgrounds.
What I like least is without a doubt the traffic!
