Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Ramsay.
Hi Terri, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Mama Ramsay’s Desserts is a family owned business run by my mom (Mama Ramsay) and I in Gainesville, Georgia. Mama Ramsay’s love of baking began when she was a child, baking in the kitchen alongside her mother. From childhood into adulthood her passion for baking grew as did requests for her cakes and treats – especially her infamous black fruit cake! While I started out as strictly the “taste tester”, I fell in love with the art of cake decorating, and now, my mother and I work side by side on each cake – Mama Ramsay focusing on her passion for baking and I, focused on creating one-of-a kind designs tailored to make any special occasion truly unique and unforgettable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been anything but smooth, yet every challenge has shaped who we are today. As with any craft, there’s a learning curve and we’ve had to build systems and processes that set the stage for success. From fine-tuning recipes to figuring out the business side of things, each obstacle has been an opportunity to grow.
There were nights we worked straight through until morning to ensure every detail was perfect. I’ve scraped down entire cakes and started over just to achieve the finish I knew it deserved. And I’ll never forget the delivery of a 3-tier anniversary cake when the top tier slid during delivery because it wasn’t properly supported. Fixing it at the event was nerve-wracking, but it taught us lessons we’ll never forget.
Through it all, these struggles have become stepping stones. They’ve tested our patience, strengthened our resilience, and fueled our passion for doing what we love to do – creating delicious and beautiful cakes and treats!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Although I have always loved EATING cake, growing up I never thought I would be in the baking industry. I have always loved children and wanted to be a teacher with a gazillion children of my own. Funny thing is, I am not a teacher (though I love volunteering and working with our youth) and I have no children of my own!
