Daily Inspiration: Meet Megan Mulvey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Mulvey.

Megan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always believed that the hardest chapters in life can be turned into something meaningful, and my journey is proof of that. I started my career in mortgage lending because I wanted to help families find stability and achieve their dream of homeownership. Along the way, I built my reputation as “The Hats & Homes Girl,” someone who would show up with personality, grit, and a genuine heart for people.

But a little over a year ago, my story took a sharp turn when I was diagnosed with leukemia. Overnight, my world shifted from loan closings and open houses to hospitals, chemo rounds, and a bone marrow transplant. Cancer stripped away my sense of normal and tested me in every way possible—not only physically and emotionally, but also financially. During that time, my husband lost his job twice, bills kept coming, and the reality of how expensive cancer really is hit hard. What carried me through was the unwavering support of my CrossFit family, my closest friends, and my faith.

That experience lit a fire in me. I knew once I made it to the other side, I wanted to create something that would give back to others facing battles like mine. That’s how Box of Hope was born—a nonprofit built to rally the CrossFit community around athletes and families facing life’s toughest fights. It’s about more than money; it’s about making sure no one feels alone, unsupported, or financially crushed when they’re fighting for their life.

Today, I’m blessed to stand healthy, back to serving families as a mortgage lender, while also launching Box of Hope to serve a bigger mission. My story is one of resilience, faith, and turning pain into purpose—and I hope it inspires others to know they’re never alone in their fight.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Just a little over a year ago, I was in the fight of my life, battling leukemia, going through 51 rounds of chemo, full body radiation, and a bone marrow transplant. During that time, my husband lost his job twice, and our family faced financial strain on top of the emotional and physical toll of cancer. It was one of the hardest seasons of my life, but also one of the most defining.

On the professional side, being in the mortgage industry means navigating constant changes—rates fluctuate, guidelines shift, and there’s always pressure to perform in a very competitive field. Balancing my recovery, raising two kids, and still serving my clients with the level of care they deserve hasn’t been easy. But those challenges shaped me into who I am today: resilient, resourceful, and deeply committed to helping others.

I’ve learned that obstacles don’t have to stop you—they can become the very fuel that drives your purpose forward. That’s why I started Box of Hope, to take my struggles and turn them into something that helps others facing their own battles.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a mortgage lender with CrossCountry Mortgage, and I like to say I wear two hats—literally and figuratively. Professionally, I specialize in helping people achieve homeownership by guiding them through every step of the mortgage process with clarity, care, and creativity. What sets me apart is that I don’t see my work as just numbers on a page—it’s about families, stories, and life chapters.

I’m known by many as the “Hats & Homes Girl,” because I blend my love for people, community, and storytelling with the serious responsibility of helping clients make one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I pride myself on being approachable and resourceful, whether that means finding a way to make a difficult deal happen or simply being there to answer questions when a client feels overwhelmed.

Beyond mortgages, my work has inspired something deeply personal—my nonprofit, Box of Hope. After walking through my own battle with leukemia, I knew what it felt like to face financial stress on top of a life-threatening illness. Box of Hope was born out of that struggle, with the mission to help CrossFit athletes and families facing similar battles so they don’t have to fight alone.

What I’m most proud of is that both my career and my nonprofit allow me to serve people at some of the most pivotal times of their lives—whether it’s buying a dream home or supporting a family in the fight of their life. At the end of the day, my work is about building trust, fostering community, and giving people hope in big and small ways.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are a few meaningful ways people can collaborate with me and support what I do. On the professional side, I love partnering with real estate agents, builders, and local businesses to help more families achieve the dream of homeownership. Referrals and introductions are invaluable, but so is simply having trusted partners who share the same heart for serving clients with honesty and care.

On the nonprofit side, Box of Hope thrives on community support. People can get involved by volunteering at events, becoming sponsors, donating, or even just spreading the word to someone who may need our help. Collaboration means standing shoulder to shoulder to ease the financial and emotional burdens of families fighting cancer, and every hand that joins us makes the impact greater.

At the end of the day, support doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s about connection. Whether it’s working together in business or locking arms in the fight against cancer, I believe we go further when we go together.
