Conversations with Francisco Da Silva Maculele Capoeira Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francisco Da Silva Maculele Capoeira Atlanta.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Capoeira Alpharetta is part of Capoeira Maculelê Atlanta, which has been sharing the art of Capoeira in Atlanta for over 23 years. Our Alpharetta chapter first began in 2006 under the leadership of Mestre Fran, creating a space for children, teens, and adults to experience this unique blend of martial arts, music, dance, and culture. After some time away, the community reached out and asked us to bring Capoeira back. In response, we proudly re-opened in 2023, continuing the mission of preserving and growing this Brazilian tradition in Alpharetta.

Today, we remain dedicated to building a strong, supportive community where students of all ages can grow in confidence, fitness, discipline, and cultural appreciation through Capoeira.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many community-based programs, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. When our Alpharetta classes paused for a time, it was uncertain if we would be able to return. But the passion of our students and families kept the vision alive, people in the community reached out asking us to bring Capoeira back.

That support reminded us why we do this work: Capoeira is more than a martial art, it’s a cultural tradition that builds connection, discipline, and joy. Each challenge has pushed us to grow stronger and more creative in how we share Capoeira, and we’re grateful for the community that continues to stand with us.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Capoeira Maculele Alpharetta, we are passionate about teaching Capoeira, the Afro-Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, dance, music, and culture. As part of Capoeira Maculelê Atlanta, we’ve been building community through Capoeira for over 23 years in the Atlanta area.

We specialize in creating programs for all ages from toddlers and kids to teens and adults making Capoeira accessible for the whole family. What sets us apart is that we are Atlanta’s only 25x award-winning family business, recognized again and again for our commitment to excellence, culture, and community impact.

We are most proud of the way Capoeira has transformed the lives of our students and families. For us, it’s not just about teaching kicks or acrobatics, it’s about building confidence, discipline, joy, and connection. Generations of families have trained with us, and we take pride in being more than just a martial arts school, we are a cultural hub, a family, and a home where students grow both inside and outside the academy.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson we’ve learned along our journey is that community is everything. Capoeira is more than a martial art it’s a cultural practice built on connection, collaboration, and mutual support. Over the years, we’ve seen firsthand that when you nurture your students, families, and local community, the impact goes far beyond the academy. Ultimately, this journey has taught us that success isn’t just about awards or recognition, it’s about the lives we touch, the confidence we build, and the culture we preserve and share every day.
