Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Chumachenko.
Hi Brooke , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
TruCraft Inc .was started back in the 1990’s by my dad, Marshall. Before relocating to Georgia in the late 90’s, we did a lot of work for large corporations such as ADM and A.E. Staley Co. While we have the ability to do all kinds of construction, we have primarily focused on Horizontal Directional Drilling since the move to Georgia. Seeing my dad’s example of honesty and integrity in both his personal and business dealings really set the tone for how the business continues to be run even today. We are still family owned and operated, and that means that we value each of our clients, and the personal relationships that we develop with them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely was not a completely smooth road. When my Dad decided to retire, there was a really big learning curve, and I’m still learning! While I have had experience as a director of a non-profit, and other business experience, construction was a completely different direction for me. When you have a family business, this can also mean you wear a lot of different hats, and fill various roles depending on the day. But it also means having the support of your family, and that has made the transition smoother. Rather than having a competitive spirit, we work together so we all can succeed. That makes things pretty fun, in spite of any challenges. At this point, I feel comfortable and confident in my role, and I look forward to what the future brings.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our work is in underground utilities construction. Specifically, directional drilling and trenchless utilities installation. That may sound boring, and it is! -Directional Boring. Our work is vastly unseen, but provides important infrastructure in a minimally invasive way.
It has been our privilege to work with some great people during our many years in business, including those at the ComTran group, Ansco & Associates, Media One, Benton Georgia Inc., the Georgia State Prison System, Lockheed Martin, and the State of Georgia, including various government facilities.
While we have performed extensive work on many large infrastructure projects, our specialty is in precision boring for the Plumbing, Electrical and Security fields. We strive to stay up to date with the latest in “green” and minimally intrusive trenchless technologies. This enables us to complete jobs requiring an extreme level of precision that many others have called impossible.
As a family business, we take pride not just in our work, but also in our reputation and good name. I would say one of the things that sets us apart from others, are the personal connections we make with our customers. When we sign on to take a job, we really care that it’s done efficiently, safely and correctly. We want the folks that we work for to look back after we leave and say, “man, those guys were great to work with.” Actually, that happens quite frequently! Many times, after we finish a job, the customer will reach out and let me know how thankful they were that the job went smoothly, and what a nice crew we have. That kind of customer service is becoming more and more difficult to find nowadays, and so I’m proud of the fact that we can consistently provide that for our customers.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes!
Being family-owned means more than just the name on our trucks—it means we’re invested here. We take pride in knowing our work helps improve the place we also call home. This has also allowed us to give back in other meaningful ways. We’ve had the privilege of volunteering our time and resources to help families displaced by the war in Ukraine, to find stability and support in our community. It’s work like this, that reminds us why staying local, independent, and family-driven matters.
As our business grows, so does our vision. We’re investing in the latest equipment, training the next generation, and finding smarter, safer ways to work. Staying family-owned means we’re in it for the long haul—committed to passing on not just a business, but a legacy of hard work and pride.
