Today we’d like to introduce you to Richauna Kidd.
Hi Richauna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I moved to Atlanta from Franklin, Tennessee in 2017 to start my career in accounting. After grad school, I was ready for a new scenery and new experiences. I knew Atlanta was where I needed to be because of the wealth of opportunity as well as the plethora of examples of black success. I wasn’t sure that accounting would be the end-all, be-all for me, but I was sure that being surrounded by so many different people and walks of life would help me figure that out.
My first few years here were definitely an adjustment. New city, new culture, new job, a lot to get used to. It was overwhelming, but also exciting because it was my opportunity to really discover myself away from the familiarity of my hometown. And discover myself I did! My time in Atlanta has been some of the toughest, but also some of the most rewarding years of my life thus far. Through many challenges, I’ve learned/un-learned, healed, grown and evolved in more ways than I can count. I’m grateful for and wouldn’t change anything I’ve experienced, because those experiences have shaped me in the best way!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has definitely challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. I’m used to operating in the background and supporting those who are front facing, but I quickly learned that entrepreneurship would change that. I’ve experienced some nerves around putting myself out there, which I’m sure is relatable! What I’m grateful for, though, is the opportunity it’s given me to grow in a new way. I’ve loved seeing the many versions of myself I’ve evolved into throughout this process. I’m excited to see my continued personal growth as the business continues to grow!
We’ve been impressed with InFlow Accounting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Before starting InFlow in 2024, I’d had experience working with clients of a wide range of sizes in a wide range of industries. What I gathered from that experience is that I enjoyed the closer relationships I was able to build with the clients that were smaller in size. For me, those closer relationships allowed me to be able to serve them better. This is why I wanted InFlow’s target market to be small to mid-sized businesses.
Being in a city like Atlanta, we’re fortunate to witness so many people turn their dreams and passions into a reality that brings a positive impact to the communities around them. It’s part of what I love most about this city. My mission behind InFlow is to support those dreamers. I know that business owners juggle many responsibilities, and managing the books is often the least favorite. My job is to take that responsibility off their plates so they can focus more of their time and energy on what they do best. Seeing their businesses thrive is motivation for me to continue doing what I do best!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a kid growing up, I was into all the things: music, poetry, theatre, dance, sports. Anything you can think of, I probably dabbled in! I had a goofy personality and loved to laugh (still do), so one of my favorite parts of summer camp was participating in plays. That was where I showed all the sides of my personality and went all out! I could also sing pretty well, like many others in my family. But I had stage fright, so getting me to sing in front of people, especially big groups, was like pulling teeth. As I got older, my interests narrowed down to sports. I played soccer for a few years, dabbled in softball and track, but my main sport was basketball. I enjoyed playing, was talented, and at one point dreamed of playing in college. But after fighting through a knee injury in high school, I realized that wasn’t the path for me, though I continued to play recreationally in college and after.
