Check Out Robin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin.

Hi Robin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my career as a musician. While my classmates were submitting college applications, I was sending my demo tape to record labels. I had some mild success as a musician, including being featured on MTV and BET. I also lived in Paris for two years, promoting an international hip hop competition called “End of the Weak”. During that time, I began leveraging early social media platforms like Myspace to help book shows for artists. I didn’t realize it then, but I was laying the foundation for my future career path.

In 2010, when my son was born, I knew I needed more stability, so I transitioned into the nonprofit sector. I started as a part-timer in New York and eventually became second-in-command at one of the largest nonprofits in the country. In that role, I helped manage a $23 million operating budget, including overseeing communications and marketing.

Then the pandemic hit, and I pivoted fully into marketing. I’ve had the opportunity to work across every sector, including a tech startup, a TV Network, and a government agency. I founded my company, GPS, LLC, focusing on providing social media solutions for nonprofits and mission-driven organizations. In 2024, I gave my TEDx talk. In 2025, I won a Gold Telly Award and released my first book, Social Media SYNC. Later that year, the book earned me an International Impact Book Award for Social Media: Content Creation & Strategy. Today, my priority is being present for my wife and two children, while supporting mission-driven organizations that create meaningful impact.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I lost my mother, Matrona Saunders, during my senior year of high school, after a bitter argument that we never reconciled. For years, I carried the guilt of her death and created a narrative that I was somehow responsible. That weight stayed with me for much of my life. I’ve found more closure now, but it still breaks my heart that I never had the chance to tell her I’m sorry.

I also lost my oldest brother, Christopher. He was healthy, active, and loved playing basketball. Then, one day, he suffered a sudden brain aneurysm and passed away shortly after.

My brother Kevin faced a different kind of hardship. At age 16, he was charged with a serious crime and sentenced as an adult to 20 years to life in prison. After serving his sentence, he was deported to Trinidad, where he tried to rebuild his life. In 2021, he fell ill with a serious heart condition and passed away.

These three devastating losses have given me a deep respect for the value of life. Every day, I work to cherish the moments I have with the people I love most while doing my best to make other lives better.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My experience as a musician has deeply influenced my work as a social media strategist. The ability to prioritize storytelling and build authentic human connections online has helped me stand out in my field. Many of my frameworks and concepts challenge industry standards. I believe that if companies and personal brands focus on improving the lives of their audiences, meaningful results will follow. I bring this approach together through my four-step SYNC method.
