Exploring Life & Business with Hayden Howard of Exodus Auto Detail, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayden Howard.

Hi Hayden, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started about seven months ago. I was in an unfortunate situation where I had been to prison for 4 and a half years (maybe leave that part out) but wanted to beat the odds and turn my life fully around and plot a new course. I had been messing up for so long and didn’t know how to stop the lifestyle I had once been living prior to going to prison. But I got sober my stay there and learned that there was so much more to life and didn’t want to be another statistic for drug addiction and “trafficking methamphetamines” I did not have steady employment, well not one where I was really making enough to survive on. I started detailing from my home then grew to a mobile crew and now we offer services ranging from basic detailing to full details, ceramic coatings and restoration. We just broke into offering Dealer Services (dealerships) – 2 contracts pending. Fleet maintenance services, and a slew of other services. I am the sole owner and hope to be up to seven figures by end of next year. We service the metro Atlanta area all the way to the blue ridge mountains. We are not slowing down. I am very motivated to win Cherokee’s Best next year which is the county that I reside and started my business in.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No not a smooth road at all. When I started, I didn’t have any equipment, So I was detailing on the side while working trying to get as much under my belt as possible. Only able to post on free boards via Facebook, etc… I didn’t have any money to really market my company, so word of mouth to start was everything for me. I was down and out to say the least. I had to obtain my license and insurance and general liability insurance – which isn’t cheap. I knew what my company could be though, so I Never Gave up. I’ve recently started using my old contacts to build relationships with various dealerships to earn contracts with them. I’ve had to learn professional ways to network with anyone and everyone. I was just able to hire a marketing team and am starting to take-off. Also in the beginning I had some shirts lettered up and hats, Also bought. my first truck from a County Surplus auction for like 2 grand and a few months later im driving a bigger Ram and about to have everything lettered. I am also im process of buying a new Enclosed trailer to pull, and if I get these contracts with the dealers by end of year when the other service providers end. I will have to be hiring about 16 detailers full time. So thats exciting. As time goes on now, the struggles have changed from “oh my gosh, how am I going to fill my truck up” – to “Oh my gosh, how am I going to keep up with all this work and hire all these folks”, or “oh my gosh, how did I make this happen.” good worries and struggles. I think the biggest struggle and fear I’ve had is when I would fail or feel like I was starting to fail was to not give up and just go back to work. I think that because so many people told me that this idea wasn’t going to work…. I push harder. I basically work seven days a week and if it’s not physical it’s computer work and sometimes walking around networking and attending business club meetings, etc.
