Today we’d like to introduce you to Jan Chrystal Tillman.
Hi Jan Chrystal, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been creative and loved the arts. I began drawing at a young age and that expanded into sewing, and me enrolling into a fashion institute school after high school. I eventually “stumbled” into painting while attending my first sip and paint in 2016. I began selling my art work in 2017. My floral business was born in 2025 after the passing of my father. I needed a floral wreath for his service and the prices were extremely pricey and so i thought to myself, I can make this, this is my “lane” and I ordered the flowers and supplies and made my fathers wreath. I received so many praises on the final result. This was the beginning of Chic Blooms and Designs by Chrystal LLC, established January 2025. Since opening, I have booked 2 weddings, a prom event, and one graduation event. Currently I am planning my own wedding and doing all of the planning. Although I had my actual bouquet made, I did make the ring boxes for the ring bearers and also blinged out my sneakers for my honeymoon.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
So far it has been smooth, my degree is in Business Administration and I have owned a previous business (nail boutique), in the past, so I am pretty familiar with most of the challenges that may arise.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
A lot of my work is custom made, I like that approach more that just making products and hoping they sell. I get my most gratification when seeing my customers excitement when they see their vision come to life. I create all florals, for weddings, funerals, proms, graduations, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. I also create art, such as abstract paintings, and any unique gift items. I am proud of all of my creations. I think what sets me apart from others is my personal touch, and am able to give my customer what they envisioned, if not more. I see art in everything, most times I can look up in the clouds and find images.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memories would have to be my times spent visiting my Auntie, who was my dad’s sister. I loved to visit her, she was my favorite aunt on my father’s side. She would teach me how to knit, crochet, sew and cook. Definitely my favorite childhood memory.
