Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Catherine Pinkard.
Hi Dr. Catherine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am one of five children. I am a graduate of Syracuse University. I was blessed to travel abroad to France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, London, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, etc. I obtained my Bachelor’s in International Relations. Then I went on to obtain a Master’s in Elementary Education and a PhD in Clinical and Christian counseling. I taught for 10 years. Then I opened my own counseling agency. I ran into some issues down the road and wound up dealing with a legal issue. I regrouped and started a nonprofit to help people with food, furniture, employment, life coaching, financial literacy (and our goal is housing). I want to empower others to overcome issues that I faced. I also am a notary and a life coach, as well as the Director of Education for Greater Love College. I am also a Certified Chaplain. I have two beautiful children (ages 13 and 28) and a member of Chapel Hill church.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, the path has definitely been rough! I started the counseling agency to help people. I didn’t anticipate facing legal issues that would take me away from my children and family as an outcome. But God brought me through it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Brothers and Sisters United for Christ?
Our nonprofit helps people with food, furniture, employment, life coaching, and financial literacy. Our goal is to also assist with housing. We are recruiting for board members that are like minded and believe in our mission of helping the reentry population, women, and at risk youth. What’s next?
I am talking with an organization that would like to assist us with life coaching and housing nationwide. I am hopefful that it comes into fruition.
