Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael McCormack.
Hi Michael , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2014, I felt called to start a church in Snellville, GA. After getting approved by our organization, my family, and I began teaching Bible studies. After a few months, we subleased a space to hold services. After two years, we rented a storefront on Highway 124. The Lord prophesied that we would expand the following year. We did and the Lord prophesied that we would expand again and get a third storefront suite. That came to pass as well. In 2022, the Lord bless us to renovate our storefront, giving us a fresh, new look. Our church has had its ups and downs, but the Lord has blessed us again to begin the process of purchasing our very own church building in Snellville. He is a faithful God and we’re excited to see what the Lord is going to do next.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think we’ve experienced anything too differently from other churches and ministries. Our attendance often fluctuates. We’ve had church splits. Both my wife and I have endured physical sickness. We’ve experienced healing, but still have some conditions. We tried to purchase a piece of land only to find out that there was granite rock underneath the dirt. We lost thousands of dollars over their property. There were spiritual attacks against my family and the church in general. However, I can say like Paul that I rejoice in tribulation, knowing that it works patience, experience, and hope.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve worked in all types of jobs from the fast food industry as a teenager to car sales as a young married man. For about 20+ years, I worked in the legal field as a personal injury investigator. My wife and I even had a law firm for about seven years. However, after being let go from my position as personal injury investigator due to Covid, I decided to go back to school. I had already graduated from Texas Bible College with a diploma of theology in the mid 90s, but I subsequently graduated from Urshan College with a BA in organizational leadership and am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Christian ministries.
Aside from my secular career, I also Pastored a church from 1998 until 2012. Our church in Snellville has recently started a second location in Clarkston, GA. I currently sit on the Georgia North American Missions board and I am the Georgia building the bridge Director, both of which are ministries within the United Pentecostal Church international.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I don’t consider myself a risk taker, but I suppose you have to be one when starting a church from scratch. When I started my first church in 1998, all I had was $100. I rented a room next to a gymnasium at a local park and started having church. Additionally, there’s a lot of risk involved for a Church group of our size to purchase a church building. But when God begins opening doors, you must walk through them. Being a leader sometimes requires taking risks that will benefit the people you lead.
