Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Haasenritter.
Hi Ethan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Prior to starting my business I was a pool technician for Atlanta Pool Solutions full time for a year. I then went to college and continued this job part time into my college career. With the goal of financially affording moving up to Kennesaw when I begin my junior year, I decided to start my detailing business July of 2024. I was just doing it part time and really focusing solely on the detailing side of things, not as much running and growing the business being that I was a full time college student. I was able to acquire some clients here and there but nothing sustainable or consistent for a while. Then once classes finished and summer break begun I took this opportunity to focus on my business full time. With the goal of growing my business I joined an auto detailing mentorship program called Driven Elite right after my classes finished in May this year. It took a couple months to get things growing and more consistent and then July of this year is where I really began to see a shift in my business with growth and consistent clients. Now I am back in college again but at UWG to study nursing. For the time being I am in college part time and running my business part time just by myself. Thanks to Driven Elite I am now usually booked out a week in advance, sometimes two. I will start nursing school next fall and this is my last semester of core classes. My goal is once I am able to get back into full time detailing status next spring/summer, I would like to hire technicians to keep the business running for when I begin nursing school next fall. Right now I am twenty two years old and live a very busy life but it has been such an amazing blessing to go through everything that has happened with my business!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. The whole first year was a struggle to find clients and make consistent money. Only reason I could afford to financially under perform for so long is because I live with my parents. It took a while to learn what it looks like to run a business and learn how to consistently get new clients. The biggest struggle was getting clients. Now that the Lord has helped me overcome that obstacle, now the biggest struggle is balancing out good grades while desiring to take on more clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I detail cars and transform them to near new condition once again. I am most proud of the quality of work I do. I cannot tell you how many clients see their vehicle after the detail and say “I don’t know that its ever looked this good before!” It is such a blessing to provide quality work, not only for my own satisfaction, but also for knowing the relief and ease that my clients feel when they step into a like new vehicle that no longer prompts stress from dirty drives.
How do you define success?
Grit first, but also growth. I cannot tell you how many times I was stressing about my finances and thought I should quit. I would not be where I am at now had I not stuck with it. When trying to start something new, there will be many days where it just sucks and is not going well. If you can stick with it long enough you are bound to be successful. Especially if you pursue it through a growth mindset as well as trying new things and learning from your mistakes. A Ted Talk discussed this concept of grit and explained how studies show that the most prominent factor for predicting success is in fact grit. Not talent, knowledge, charm, or money, but rather grit. If you can stick with it, and then from there learn from your mistakes and learn how to grow, you will be successful.
