Shanette , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey hasn’t been traditional. At 25, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, which made it difficult to maintain a conventional job. With the support of my husband, we decided it was best for me to become a stay-at-home mom so I could focus on my health and our family.

While at home, I refused to let my circumstances define me. I earned my Master of Accountancy with a concentration in auditing and a minor in business administration, and I began laying the groundwork for my career. What started as a simple way to help family and friends with their taxes gradually evolved into Insight Accounting & Business Solutions, a firm dedicated to providing personalized tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and notary services.

Over the years, I’ve built lasting relationships with clients who return year after year because they know I genuinely care about their financial success. Now, as I continue working toward becoming an Enrolled Agent, my mission is to help clients not only understand their numbers but also develop strategies that drive growth and sustainability.

It’s been a journey defined by resilience, learning, and purpose, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come. With more than a decade of experience in the tax and accounting field, I’m grateful to use my expertise to make a difference in the lives of others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at 25 presented significant challenges that impacted nearly every aspect of my life. I faced numerous hospital visits, extended stays, and ongoing treatments that left me physically drained and disrupted my plans. There were periods when I had to step away from school for years until I was well enough to continue. What would have typically taken four to six years to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree took nearly twice as long to achieve. Yet, through every setback, I remained determined not to give up.

There were days when fatigue, pain, and flare-ups made it difficult to get out of bed or focus. At times, I questioned whether I could continue pursuing my dream of owning my own accounting firm. Balancing the unpredictability of my illness with academic and personal responsibilities was incredibly challenging. However, the unwavering support of my husband provided the strength, stability, and encouragement I needed to keep going.

I fought hard to overcome every obstacle placed before me, and I did. My journey taught me resilience, patience, and the power of perseverance. Today, I’m proud not only of my accomplishments but also of the path it took to reach them.

Most importantly, putting clients first allows me to tailor every decision and strategy to their unique needs, building lasting relationships based on trust.

I also value adaptability and continuous learning. To stay informed about industry updates and policy changes, I attend two to three tax conferences each year, including the IRS Tax Forum. These experiences allow me to bring fresh insights and the latest strategies to my clients. For me, success is achieved by combining technical expertise with genuine care for each client’s financial well-being.
