Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick B.
Hi Nick, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey really started long before I ever knew it would become a career. when I was just Bri. I’ve always been drawn to creativity and self-expression, and hair was one of my first outlets. I started doing hair as a self-taught Braider about nine years ago in my mommy’s living room in Austell,Ga, mostly working with family, teammate’s and friends, and over time it became something much deeper than just styling — it became a way to help people feel grounded and confident in their natural beauty.
Over the years, I developed a passion for locs, sisterlocks, and natural hair care, and I eventually turned that passion into HANDSOFBNB LLC, where I specialize in healthy hair transformations and loc maintenance. I’ve grown from servicing clients at home to now having my own salon suite in the Metro Atlanta area, while also offering travel services to accommodate clients across the region.
On a personal level, the journey hasn’t been easy — it’s taken a lot of faith, persistence, late nights, and lessons in patience. But what keeps me going is seeing my clients leave my chair not just looking good, but feeling renewed AND coming back. I’m currently working toward earning my cosmetology license and sisterlock certification to expand my expertise and continue offering a luxury, knowledgeable experience.
Every part of my story has been built on purpose, persistence, and love for what I do — and I’m still just getting started
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey has been filled with lessons, losses, and moments that really tested my faith. When I first decided to go all in with my business, I lost a lot of friends — not out of malice, but simply because my dedication and focus pulled me in a different direction. I was learning how to build something from the ground up, and that kind of grind can get lonely.
Before I took the leap, I was working a corporate job that left me completely drained. I was miserable, losing my passion, and I knew deep down I was meant for more. So I quit and tried doing hair full-time — but that first attempt didn’t go how I hoped. I ended up working at Amazon three days a week just to make ends meet, then rented a booth with some very unprofessional people. When that didn’t work, I started servicing clients right out of my bedroom.
Eventually, I got a suite on Bennett Street with my cousin, who was doing amazing things in her business. But we struggled with high overhead costs, and when she went through a serious mental burnout, everything shifted. That situation ultimately led to me becoming temporarily homeless. I had to get a security job just to get back on my feet.
Not being able to afford suite rent opened the door for me to start offering travel services — and that became a blessing in disguise. I worked out of living rooms, shared spaces, and even rented a room from one of my longtime clients who supported me through that transition. Every setback forced me to get more creative, more resourceful, and more faithful.
Through all of it, the one constant has been my faith in God. Every time I thought I’d lost everything, He made a way — and looking back, I see that each struggle prepared me for the stability and purpose I have now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner and lead stylist of HANDSOFBNB LLC, a natural hair care brand built around the art and integrity of locs. I specialize in loc maintenance, sisterlocks, and advanced loc care services such as repairs, reconstructions, detox treatments, and loc coloring. Over the years, I’ve become known for my precision, patience, and ability to restore and maintain the health of my clients’ hair while also helping them embrace the beauty of their natural journey.
What sets me apart is my commitment to education, quality, and community. I’ve invested heavily in expanding my knowledge — from mastering advanced interlocking techniques to learning how to safely repair and revive damaged locs. My goal isn’t just to make my clients look good for the moment, but to ensure their locs stay strong, clean, and healthy long-term.
Beyond the salon, I’m also deeply passionate about giving back. I started a small initiative called Helping Hands of BNB, a mini non-profit that takes 8% of every service or sale and puts it toward providing hygiene bags and meal kits for the unhoused people of Vine City and surrounding Atlanta areas. It’s my way of serving my community outside of hair — because beauty, to me, also means dignity, compassion, and care.
What I’m most proud of is how far this vision has come — not just the growth of my business, but the impact it’s made. I started with nothing but faith, and now I get to do what I love every day while pouring back into the same city that shaped me.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice is to be patient, kind, and loving to yourself. This journey isn’t meant to be rushed. Boundaries, policies, and systems aren’t just for your clients — they’re for you. They protect your time, energy, and peace so you can show up as your best self.
When God gives you the vision, ask Him to guide your next steps — and then do it scared. There’s never going to be a perfect time or perfect setup. The perfect moment is when you decide to start.
Don’t compare your path to anyone else’s. Comparison is truly the thief of joy. Everyone’s timeline looks different, and that’s okay. Stay focused on your own progress and purpose.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help, seek mentorship, or invest in guidance. None of us know everything, and there’s power in learning from others. Most importantly, please take financial literacy seriously — learn how to manage and grow your money so that your business can serve you, not just the other way around.
And no matter what happens, KEEP MOVING FORWARD. You’ll fall, you’ll fail, you’ll restart — but as long as you keep going, you’ll always be right where you’re supposed to be.
