Hi Angel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Angel Dweh is a dynamic Liberian-American Afrobeat artist, singer-songwriter, dancer, and visionary whose music embodies the vibrant spirit of Africa while embracing a wide range of global influences. Born in the heart of Liberia (Africa) and raised in the United States, Angel’s artistic journey reflects a powerful fusion of cultural heritage, creativity, and perseverance. His early passion for dance and musical theater provided the foundation for his artistry, allowing him to explore storytelling through movement, rhythm, and emotion. These experiences later evolved into a deep commitment to music transforming his artistic expression into a powerful voice that connects audiences across borders.
In 2020, Angel made a groundbreaking debut with his singles “Love a Good Thing” and “Kokona,” which resonated strongly with audiences both in Africa and abroad. The songs introduced listeners to his distinct sound a captivating blend of Afrobeat, Pop, and R&B infused with heartfelt lyrics and infectious energy. His ability to merge contemporary global sounds with the pulsating rhythms of his Liberian roots quickly set him apart as a rising force in the modern African music movement. These releases not only showcased his versatility as a performer and songwriter but also established him as an artist capable of crafting music that inspires, uplifts, and unites.
Building on this momentum, Angel took a major step in his career in 2021 by founding Lake Village Music LLC, a Pennsylvania-based independent music company dedicated to producing, distributing, and promoting his creative works. This bold move solidified his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to maintaining full artistic control over his vision. In September 2024, Angel Dweh and his brother, Stanley Dweh, founded The Dweh Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of Liberian youth through access to quality education. The foundation was created out of a shared passion for giving back to their homeland and addressing the educational challenges faced by children in underserved communities across Liberia.
At its core, the Dweh Foundation’s mission is to provide financial assistance and academic opportunities to students from kindergarten through 12th grade, ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has the chance to pursue their dreams and build a brighter future. By partnering with a network of trusted schools throughout Liberia, the foundation works hand in hand with educators, parents, and local leaders to identify deserving students and provide the necessary resources to support their learning journey.
The foundation’s scholarship program covers essential educational needs such as tuition, school supplies, uniforms, and other learning materials, helping to ease the financial burden on families. Beyond financial support, the Dweh Foundation is committed to fostering academic excellence, creativity, and leadership by encouraging students to participate in music, arts programs.
Through its growing partnerships and donor support, the Dweh Foundation continues to expand its reach, creating pathways for long-term educational development and youth empowerment. Angel and Stanley envision a Liberia where every child can access quality education and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress. Their foundation stands as a testament to the power of unity, compassion, and the belief that education is the key to transforming lives and building stronger communities for generations to come.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey toward establishing myself as an independent artist and philanthropist has been both challenging and profoundly transformative. There were times when it felt as though my music went unheard, moments when self-doubt crept in, and I questioned whether the sacrifices and late nights were worth it. Yet, it was precisely through these trials that I discovered the true strength and depth of my voice both as an artist and as a human being committed to making a difference.
During these moments of uncertainty, I turn to prayers and reflection, seeking guidance and inspiration from God. These quiet moments of introspection provide clarity, restore my sense of direction, and remind me of the greater purpose behind my work. They fuel my determination to continue creating music that resonates with people, uplifts spirits, and speaks to the hearts of my supporters those I lovingly refer to as “The Angels.”
This journey has not only shaped my artistry but also taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, faith, and patience. I have learned to embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth, to trust in the timing of my path, and to find peace in every step of the process. Each song I write, every performance I give, and each philanthropic effort I undertake is infused with a renewed sense of purpose and passion, reflecting my unwavering commitment to both my craft and the communities I serve.
Ultimately, this path has shown me that success is not defined solely by recognition or accolades but by the impact one makes, the lives touched, and the authenticity with which one pursues their calling.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
